I know this thread has probably been done before in one shape or another but we are all constantly buying new knives and so changing our views.
So the question is...If for some strange reason you had to get rid of all your knives except one and this one had to be your sole knife for the rest of your life, which one would you keep ?
Mine would be my SRKW Ratmandu, I just find the size and dimensions perfect as a mid sized knife and it's the only blade I have owned where I have yet to have anything I'd like to change about the knife !!!

If I had to have and use this knife for the remainder of my years, I'd likely select something stainless, probably a Buck 119. Of course, your question is way out of line for most of us so called 'knife addicts' or those that just can't stay away from the delightful lure of these forums. There is not one amongst us that could make it with a sole piece of cutlery on our belt. Or, am I mistaken?

I would most likely go with something Busse made:thumbup:. Nothing smaller than the SFNO style knife.

The one that you keep is the one you have with you when keeping it.:p

Some will think I'm nuts, but I'd keep my Vic Farmer. If I was forced to keep only one KNIFE, that would be it.

I can alway pair it up with as many AXES/HATCHETS as I care to.:D

If limited to one I'd choose my old CS Carbon V Trailmaster, but I'd cheat and stash my Vic. Farmer, too. :D

I have a custom shop AD that I have fallen in love with. I would say that one, or my Scott Gossman hunter. I have field dressed/skinned/butchered countless critters, made pelt stretchers, carved tent pegs, used it as a flesher, wittled, made traps and about everything esle I can think of with that knife..... Normally I would say that knife, but my Busse AD has latley been seeing alot of work and it too as held an edge, and stayed sharp an strong and comfortable. So its tuff and I guess I'd say the Gossman hunter...cuz its been there and done that.

I am tempted to say my blue farmer as well, but it would probably be my bark river nebula.
Or my Grohmann boat knife. Or my F1.:D
Problem is I haven't had a chance to really use my blades yet. Give me 4 months though.;)

I haven't found it yet.
I keep buying 'em, looking for that one knife that will cause me to forsake all others but alas, no joy. :(

Of those I have now, my SR Howling Rat (Gen 2) is probably the most versatile so I'll have to stick with that one.

tough question...considering we are knife knuts here...

i think i would have to go with my mora #1. stout little knife, and because of the scandi grind it will last a hundred sharpenings without thickening of up at all.

i think a more difficult question for alot would be if you could only pick one stone/one grit of sandpaper to sharpen with for the rest of your life...

Heh....As it turns out, I'm drastically reducing my collection as we speak. Pay off some bills, declutter my life a little, etc.

Two of the camp knives that will not be leaving are my BRK Nebula (camping) and my BRK Highland (hunting)

In my pocket will remain my BM Dejavoo, and my Douk Douk.

I got it down to four....Sorry man, but that's just flat out the best I can do!:o

this changes pretty frequently for me but for now it's my vic rucksack or my carbon mora clipper....Do machete's count?

That's fairly easy as it's crossed my mind once or twice.

My single knife would have to be my Busse Heavy Heart Fusion Steel Heart (HHFSH or just HH in Busse shorthand).

In my hand, it's perfectly balanced for both chopping and, using the choil, controllable enough for most finer tasks. The grip (magnums) is absolutely perfect for my hand.

The edge is scary sharp, it keeps it well even when battoning hardwood logs for firewood (which it's done a fair bit of now), and it doesn't rust. The other day I chopped and battoned about 15, 2.5-to-4 inch thick, 12-to-24 inch long hard, knotty logs into everything from kindling upwards for the fire. Even made fuzz sticks with it. The fire lit from a small bit of PJB under the fuzzies. Nice!

Part of the edge lost its scary sharpness, dropping down to merely arm-shaving sharp. Just one stroke on either side from a smooth ceramic rod brought it back to scary. Seriously, just one stroke. Of course the point and rear of the blade were still scary sharp anyway, not having been hammered through the knots, a benefit of having a larger blade.

Here's a picture, taken when I first got it, before I really started to use it:

I have some pretty nice knives, but I think the one I'd keep given this scenario is my Fallkniven A1.

Busse ASH-1, I would have to pick between the two I have but it would be one of them.

I'd have this Ranger 5.5" Afghan. It stays in my kit with a LM Wave in the Spec-Ops pouch so it's never too far away.

Folder: Buck Prince. My wife gave it to me and I have carried it everyday of my life since (when I don't have to fly). She got it for me to replace a similar one I got when I was 10 years old.

Fixed blade: F1

Honestly if I had to chose one of those two it would, I would keep the buck. Great knife and sentimental reasons.
