If you can only have one...

For life? No such thing I fear. The one knife I expected to keep forever, a knife I received for Father's Day ten years ago, has been lost. Not misplaced, not forgotten, but lost. I have no idea where it is as I can't even remember the last place I saw or used it.

😭

The universe laughs at our plans.
What was it???

It was a stag covered GEC scout waynorth waynorth .

Mine would be a two bladed pen knife ( 2 5/8 - 3 1/4 long)with blades on opposite ends but not necessarily equal ended. Preferred blades would be a spear or pen and a coping blade.

Like a GEC Tidioute 09 Esquire or my Schatt & Morgan Office knife

It’s always been a single blade about 3 3/4ā€-4ā€ closed preferably in stag, with a drop or clip point blade. I’ve had a few customs with those characteristics. The knife that looked and felt the best was a GEC 73 that I unfortunately sold. I’m currently in possession of a Tom Bullard that meets most of those needs except that it’s covered in walnut which I find quite satisfying.F584F2DE-20EA-49AF-85B2-482B225BB1BB.jpeg

I posted earlier that the large stockman is my one and only (if necessary), but lately I've been carrying the Bayou Trapper sowbelly and it could give the large stockman a run for the money. Four inches closed, very ergonomic frame and a wonderful set of blades to cover any need. One of these in M390 stainless and gnarly ram's horn might be THE ONE.

Well... I still have a lot to discover but so far the most useful knife is the split back whittler. Specifically the one thick clip point main blade, one nice thin pen blade and I don't care what the third is (doesn't need a third really).

It is the perfect pattern. Heavy duty clip for everyday beating and the little pen blade for something more intricate (or sharpening pencils)

Coming in close second would be a large jack with spear or clip point and a pen blade.

If somebody still made something like this, I think it would be perfect for me:

If it was 4-1/2 to 5ā€ closed, and made like the old Imperials with hollow sheet metal handles, stamped to look like bolsters and stag, it would satisfy my fondness for big, cheap knives, and give me a perfect blade combination.
