If you could only own 3 knives for the rest of your life...

I can’t imagine that scenario, and hope that never happens! I am of the opinion that a multi tool is not included as it is a tool- the same for axe and saws. For right now (arriving knives may change a choice), I would choose:
CPK SDFK
Spyderco PM2
Bob Dozier Professional Guides Knife
Well believe it or not, some people use their knife as a tool me included because my knives are tools… But I don’t use a knife as axe, pry bar, hammer, screwdriver or whatever else it can be misused as. All of my multi tools have knife blades so I’m considering they have knife DNA 😆

I’m not good at exercises like these since I start thinking “is this because of a zombie apocalypse or I’m going to a lunar colony or what?” but I think between like a Buck 110 and maybe a fixed EESE or something, I conceivably might not need another knife for just about anything. If my life is staying the way it is, and I just for whatever reason have to choose, and price is no object, I guess I’d change out the Buck for a CRK or something, since it’s supposed to be designed to last for my expected remaining lifespan. And I’ll take a nice Peña custom while I’m at it. For all those dressy occasions I attend.
my thoughts exactly, the choice would be made entirely and accordingly to one's own circumstances ~ "wise"

Out of the few I own, this’ll work. These knives are amazing in every way. The CPK HDFK is the best all around knife I’ve ever owned. The SYKCO DB-421 is a great light weight compact chopper that’ll probably double as an amazing defensive knife. And the Winkler is awesome at the smaller and finer tasks, while not being too small.

Taken from the budget knives I own, and excluding kitchen cutlery:

1. Civivi Backlash (hollow ground slicer extraordinaire)
2. Cold Steel Large Voyager (for the bigger jobs)
3. Maserin Plow Sodbuster (when I want that traditional thang)

For the Kitchen, I would throw in my Dalstrong 8" Chef's Knife. Sharpens well and holds an edge "moderately" well. Good enough for me.

This is the one with no reservation.

Thick blade, PB washer, glass breaker and partly serrated edge and thick side plates in handle. Last but most important, flipper tab that protect the hand from SHANKING.
