If you could only own 3 knives for the rest of your life...

You could try something different while you wait for your Benchmade to be serviced. SAKs are reasonably priced and useful enough that you could enjoy it after your Bugout comes home. There are many other possibilities.

That’s a good idea. Looks like a basic SAK can be had for $20. Might be worth doing that and just throwing it in my first aid kit after my Bugout returns.

Spyderco Para 2
Esee Izulla II
Esee 6HM

I think a edc folder, small fixed blade and a large fixed blade is the way to go.

This is also hoping that multi tools, saws, tomahawks, axes, etc don’t count and I can still have those ;)

Arr. NO. Life would no longer be worth living. Between my pack, and my pockets, I almost always have more than three on me. Then there are the 2 in my Jeep, and a few more in my desk...

I've been rocking the Benchmade Bugout for a few years now as my only pocket knife. So naturally that is my answer. It's a fantastic knife. Lightweight, great slicer, perfect low profile pocket clip, smooth Axis action, cool color, etc.

But I've come to the point that my lack of sharpening skills (I have the Spyderco Sharpmaker but I think it needs a more thorough tuneup than I am able to do) means it really needs to be sent off to Benchmade to get actually sharpened well. I keep putting it off though because I don't want to have to be without a knife for probably two months between shipping and waiting to receive it back. So a second Bugout might be needed. I just can't make myself spend money on that since it's not a long-term need.

buy another knife, maybe a Spyderco

then clean the sticks on your Sharpmaker with comet and a green scrubbie. Start with the grey ones and sharpen it. It may take a while but then you will be able to maintain your knives at home.

I mentioned my 3 earlier in the thread but I wanted to clarify that multitool s such as my Swisstool and Wave+ are not knives so they don’t count against my 3, right? Same with axes and saws.

I could get by nicely with 3 knives:
- Skaha II
- ESEE 4
- Japanese chef's knife or santoku

My needs are pretty simple. My wants are entirely another thing.
