If you sell or trade Hinderers what do you EDC?

My original question of if ones sells such an great knife, then what knife do they EDC. The reasons can be several. A Hinderer might be too (fill in the blank) for your needs, or it's a grail you cannot bring yourself to use, etc..

Since Hinderer does not currently offer refurbishing, I find myself EDCing other knives in my collection. I'm carrying my ZT 0550 today. Carried my Umnum yesterday.

You just won't let it go will ya? Carry the XM, use the hell out of it, it isn't a Rolex. Does ZT refurbish knives? Does Glock refurbish pistols?

I have a hinderer xm-18 3.5 non. Flipper and a xm-18 3 in flipper tried carrying other knives but always go back to carry my hinderers. I carry both everyday they are not ment to be safe queens. I own just about every brand of knives you can think about nonthing beats a Hinderer xm -18.

I'm a little confused. By the time a heavy user XM needs a refurb, the Spa may indeed be open.

Perhaps. Perhaps not. If there was an intention to offer this service again at some point, it sure would be good to know that. More clarity on this issue would be extremely helpful.

He means for light scratches. He likes his stuff pristine.

Absolutely not. Here's the real issue. If you want a Hinderer knife, you're going to have to pay a hefty price for it, both in absolute and relative terms. One of the things that justifies the price tag I have to pay for a luxury item (which a Hinderer knife is IMHO) is the knowledge that I can recoup a reasonable amount of the purchase price should I decide to sell the item later for whatever reason. So if I can use my knife and know that it can be refurbished, I've no issue "hard using" a knife. If I can't get a knife refurbished, then I know ever usage induced blemish reduces both the likelihood of being able to sell the knife, and the price which I can sell it for. So I'm less likely to carry and use my Hinderer over say a lower cost knife (like a ZT for instance) or a higher cost knife from a manufacturer like CRK whom does offer refurbishment services.

A Hinderer costs 385 for a production model. I know of a custom being offered right now for 550.

If you CHOOSE to pay more than that "to get it now," then that's your choice and Hinderer isn't responsible for that.

I'm very happy with mine that I paid 385 for. And I have no doubt that I could get that back out of it.

But as for resale, do you expect to get to MSRP back when you sell or trade in your BMW?

Not sure how but, a "conversational thread" has drifted so lets get back to the "conversation" and OFF the topic of pricing, selling, re-selling, etc. Blah-D-Blah.

Copy that.

@Rollie-J, once one owns anything, it is theirs to do with as they please as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others.
Enjoy your XMs however you like, I do as well. There is no wrong answer and you do not have to thrash your folder just because some "guys on the Internet" suggest it.

Out of respect for Rubicon, I'm not going to engage in a discussion about price/market conditions. And it's really not needed here to understand my point. Assuming you can get a Hinderer knife at retail, it's still a substantial cost which I'd prefer to be able to recapture a reasonable amount of if and when I should sell.

Note that I've repeatedly said "a reasonable amount" not 100% or more of the purchase price - that's not the goal or expectation. Though since you ask, BMW is ranked as I believe the number 2 best value holder when it comes time to sell/trade in. I've done very well with my Bimmers. :)

Thanks! At the end of the day this is no different than any other feature or service offered by a knife manufacturer. Some people like serrated blades. Others don't. Some may wish for a serrated XM (not something I've seen offered in a production XM). Most apparently don't. I'm sure Hinderer would provide a serrated model option if they thought there was a business case to do so. Such is the same with refurbishment. It's a business decision for Hinderer - nothing more. I certainly would love it if Hinderer provided this service in the future, but even if they don't, they still unquestionably make fantastic knives.

The Zurich Swats were serrated. As I understand it, they are not "customs", but limited special production items. And I believe a couple made a show or two.

We have found that John has become a bit of a troll as of late, not just here but on other forums. So if I see him diverting things, I am just closing the thread down....Mods, you do the same.

For those that may wonder if our refurb services will be back on line, of course they will. We are just too busy right now to be able to turn your knife around in a reasonable amount of time. There is no reason for it to sit here on the bench if we can't get to it, so that is why we cut things off. This has no effect on our warranty or sharpening services, only full refinish refurbs.

We have no plans to offer serrated knives.
