If you were forced to use a folder for fixed blade jobs, what would you trust?

Para 2 or something from Cold Steel with a Tri-Ad lock.

I'm surprised by all of the folks wanting to use the 0550. The 0550 and 0560 and the like fail easily with some light twisting and torquing of the handles while the blade is in the medium you are cutting. I wouldn't trust anything to those if I had to use them as a fixed blade. Search out some YouTube vids and see for yourself.

I'll throw in:

As per the Pocket Bushman, I'd leave it home.
For me, no matter how strong it may be, it is still
an ergonomic disaster. Yes, the lock system is great,
but in use I began developing blisters from the hot
spots along the front of the handle in minutes. YMMV.
Also, around my area, the legal blade length is 4"
and the Bushman comes in at about 4.25".

No real experience with the Svord Peasant so I don't
know about it.

Of what I have and like, I'd recommend the Benchmade
275 Adamas, or a Cold Steel large Voyager(29TLC). Both are
great knives that will hold up to a lot of hard use.

Good luck finding what you want.

From what I own, if my use included chopping/batoning:

In this order:
Adamas (Very strong lock, thick liners, thickest folding blade I have)
Contego (Strong lock, thick blade, M4 Steel)
Recon 1 (Very strong lock, blade isn't super thick though, which is better for slicing/cutting, but you'd have to watch the twisting and lateral forces)

Never had a problem with that personally. I must hold it different than you were.

My Spyderco Native has been through prying, batoning, swimming, scraping. Whatever. So it.

Can I spice things up and say an Ontario Retribution 1?

Okay...I'm saying it...

ONTARIO RETRIBUTION 1!!!

I owned one for a short period of time but never used it. In my mind I imagined it could really take a beating. :)

Contego, no doubt.

I've split 2x4s with my cold steel American lawman and a 4 lb single jack in the past. I needed some wedges and didn't have a saw or time to whittle so I had to make due. I wasn't doing it just for fun, but to help finish up a bid job that was running too long. No super tactical shtf fancy pantsy mail ninja junk, just a legitamit need. The knife held up fine (no blade play or anything) and I carried it for another year or so longer before I moved on to a different triad lock knife.

So, to answer your question, I would use the cold steel American lawman. But to be fair, I did throw a fixed blade in my truck after that so that I'd never need to do it again.

I'm glad I'm not the only one mentioning the Svord Peasant around here. I'd be happy if it were my only knife.

Honestly anything with a tri ad lock. Cold Steel makes some damn good blades for not too much cash. Its a tough as nails lock and if it does break at least If you make it out alive then you only broke a $60 knife as opposed to $150+ knife. Seriously I think it would suck to be thrown into a survival situation with just a folder, fight like hell to get out then have to come home with your $200 0550 be destroyed
