If you were to start over what would you get?

Gray Para2 Check
CF Stretch Check
StarTac this year I hope, but ZT limited runs threaten my chances.

I would get a ZT 0400, and do the same mods as "NeverMore1701" has had done to his. My Junk Yard Dog 2.2, and CS Spartan would be my top three. I know they're not the most expensive, but I'm a simple man.

Thanks everyone for weighing in, definitely lots of great options to consider for a newbie. Kinda leaning towards a Chris Reeves, any particular discontinued, highly desirable model I should be on the lookout for.

Lefty Large Sebenza Insingo
Lefty Small Sebenza Insingo Micarta
Original Bob Loveless drop point hunter

You should consider all the Wilson Tactical models, the StarTac, and small and reg Starbenzas.

Micarta inlays and Insingo blades are nice.

It's cool seeing you cut to the chase and go for all the marbles with your early knife purchases. a CF Para2 for your first blade is raised eyebrow worthy. I believe you got the knife from Smasak recently, HA! I called seconds on that on the exchange. Good pick-up.

@FCM415, thank you for the additional suggestions, will definitely look into those as well. Yep my Para2 came from Smasak and it's a great knife, definitely a keeper. I try to identity my grails early on so as not to flip too much.

Scott Cook's Lochsa with damascus blade.

Mnandi with ladder damascus and Mammoth bark inlays.

I would probably start with a Spyderco Para military and a ESEE 3 if I were to start over. My favorite folder and fixed.

This may sound weird to some of you guy's. But, I think everybody owes it to themselves to own a nice SAK or two or three. Then I think a nice fixed blade would be in order, I have a Gravelle that I LOVE. But, a production fixed blade of good steel is essential. Then I think a good solid folder of some sort is in order. I've tried Kershaw, ZT, Spyderco, Benchmades, Gerber, Cold steel. What I have left are Spyderco's and Benchmades. I have come to love both companies, and their knives. I especially like the Axis lock. But, I wouldn't limit this to just three knives. I'd also recommend a person gets a nice traditional folder. I like Case and Queen, especially the trapper and stockman models. And, the great thing about knives is there are SO many different models and types that a person can spend a lifetime collecting and using, and never collect them all. It's a wonderful hobby.

As for specific models. Right now I like, and would buy again, an Gravelle custom fixed blade in A2 steel, a Benchmade Contego, and a Benchmade 710 in m4 steel. Those three get used most out of my collection.

Love the Mnandi with Mammoth bark, saw one recently for sale but it went fast. Also liked the Sebenza with the River of Fire damascus.

I think my next major knife purchase will be the Sebenza 25. I REALLY like that knife, and it's construction. Very nice, but pretty expensive for me. So, it's gonna have to wait till I save my pennies up.:D

If I started over I would get nicer knives now that I know more about them. I started of with a bunch of cheapo knives and am just starting to get higher end ones. But for the list I'd go
1) Griptilian (already have)
2) zt 350
3) venom green esee 5

I would be stupid happy to have these.

I have a s90v CF Para2 on the way too now also. Now I'm not sure which one I personally value more, my Gray Para2, or this CF coming. CF is rarer and more sought after but they're both my grails.
