You need a gold membership or higher to sell even one knife on BFC. That is $25/year.
A dealer membership for one year is $200. It IS more expensive, but I don't understand why there have to be additional perks with a dealer membership. A dealer is defined (or not) here at BFC by the volume of sales. Well, a dealer membership may be 8 times more expensive than a gold membership, but you can bet your bottom dollar that a dealer is definitely moving a lot more than 8 times the number of knives I have for sale. So again, why are the extra perks needed?
As far as new members being led astray by a dealer that charges more for a particular knife than someone else (including another dealer), we can all say that the new member should have done his homework more thoroughly, but that avoids the real issue--i.e. that one member is intentionally and selfishly taking advantage of someone/something else. That a new member does not know that he is being taken advantage of or he just does not care, it is still the behavior of the dealer that is taking advantage of another which I find somewhat repugnant. And what the OP stated in his original post is simply a variation on this theme of taking advantage to someone else's detriment. Dealer or not, if one is so willing to take advantage of someone else to benefit yourself, then you are NOT so much a HOG as a sychophant.
A few weeks ago, I saw a FS ad in the X where someone was selling a few Busse knives for very good prices. In his ad, he stated that he would not sell to any dealer.. While I have no issue with the practices of some dealers, I still applaud the seller's efforts to get some knives into the hands of the masses without risk that a dealer would come in, grab everything, and then mark the knives up 25%+ and make them for sale 3 days later. Maybe we need to see more FS posts like that one!
