IMPORTANT: Software switch problems - Wait and import threads, or wipe forums clean?

There is so much good stuff that I'd hate to loose. I've used the search feature a couple of times tonight. Please wait and try to import the old stuff.

Yeah Spark, we do not need the info.

Like the list of sub-hilt makers Les just posted in Custom as a current example of thousands.

Just let me know before you have to do it so I can go pick-up a couple of tera-byte drives.

If it has to be ditched it has to be ditched, but it would be a shame.

Much would be lost if the archives were not saved. I was just looking at a post from long ago, very instructive.

Put all of the old forums on CD-Rom and sell it. It sounds like that would be the way to go, and it would generate funds for the site.

I can't wait to see what the new Software has to offer. Sounds great.

I truely would like to keep the older threads. If it's a matter of waiting for a fix, I'd say wait.

The information in the "Shop Talk" section alone has to be pure Gold. I haven't even begun to scratch the surface in there yet. But I'd be happy to buy a CD if it came to that.

Spark,
I think we should try and save them, there's alot of valuable info out there

Spark, first, thanks for asking!

Second, "SAVE THE LIBRARY!" Take your time to change over.

Third, if you can't save it in archives, then the CD idea is great. Count me in!

I could launch a long monologue about the importance of knowing where we come from, etc, and how the digital age has sometimes wrecked the concept of a cultural timeline, but you know, it would be so long and take up so much bandwidth that blah blah blah...

Spark - 10x for asking.

The archives of BF are probably the largest data base on knives ever gathered.

Throwing them away is like burning down the Alexandria library all over again...

What ever you do - keep the old forums available.

The funny thing is - some member - and I don't want to call them names - But they have been members for 3 whole days and have an aggregate of 55 messages ask you to erase the archives...and start over again...Shhhhhit

They should invest three months in reading them - and then get the permission to post...

Heck - maybe we should have a mandatory lurking period...

Too much good stuff to trash it.

Witness the raging Second Ammendment discussion that would disappear forever if we trash it all. There is just too much good stuff there just posted in the last week that is so valuable for helping refute idiots!!!

Save it!

I think one reason we all(most) want the archives saved is it is the heritage of the forums. A lot of oldtimers here (I'm not one as you can see) have complained about how the forums have changed (for the worse...) but saving the archives would be preserving the old heritage. Wiping them would be like wiping someones memory/lobotomy.

also it would be deleting the heritage and you would start over from nothing a feeling of loss of roots. Think you may in fact loose some members over that (and they would probably be the older ones, not us newbies.) so to sum up: the archives are the memory / heritage of the forums. Without them we all become lost children (he he
