In My Opinion, Still the King

I love the delica and own quite a few. It is a very capable knife. It is thin and slicey which is where it really shines. It is also very innocuous. Is it the greatest knife ever made? No. Is it capable of everything an EDC knife is needed for? Most likely.

There are two knives I call "The King". One is a fixed blade and one is a folder. The Becker BK9 is the king of fixed blades and the Spyderco Military is the king of folders. YMMV. ;)

Hi Sir I am new here.
Which could be according to you the king of edc knives with thin 4inch blade.
I mean I would love a great slicer but with a sturdy blade. What do you advice ?

The Endura is the Delica's big brother. It is a hair under four inches.

If you want a sturdier knife than the Endura that is still a great slicer look at the Spyderco Military. It has a 4 inch blade, thicker blade stock than the Endura but still has a thin full flat grind so it slices well.

The wasted space between the bottom of the secondary bevel and the top of the handle is a sin in 2018. Make a damn 50/50 choil and call it a Delica 5. Or bring the cutting edge all the way down to the handle.

The tang on a lock back extends beyond the handle to provide the kick that prevents the blade from hitting the rocker bar.

On topic, the Delica is a great knife, but it doesn't call to me. The Buck 112 calls to me. Benjamin Franklin said, "In the dark, all cats are grey." True enough, but he wasn't talking about pocket knives, which I use in the daylight. In that case, I prefer the pretty ones.

I love a lot of Spyderco products but have never warmed to the Delica, though I'm not entirely sure why. I don't mind plastic handles and like light knives that carry well, but I've just never been a fan of that model.

Maybe because it's sort of an in-between sized knife? My small Spyderco knives with a finger choil (e.g. Cat/Dragonfly/Kopa/etc.) beat it out on the small knife end of things, and at the size I usually carry ~3.5" there are many knives I'd rather carry (e.g. Southard/Manix 2 LW/etc.).

Obviously you like bigger knives. The Military is a great knife, but for me, just too big and intimidating for EDC

True, I do. They are legal and seem to be accepted where I live. Obviously though I am in the minority. If you look at the knife market in general there are not as many larger folders as small to mid sized folders. Based on market share it looks like 3 to 3.5 inches is the preferred size range.

I have not been able to take my GrindMod Delica out of my pocket for a very long time. G10 plus choil makes it perfect for me.

While the Delica is a great knife, in my opinion, it is a bit overpriced.

I am a fan of delica also, and I agree, today's pricing is off the roof. When I got my Delica 4 in 2005 when they first came out, I'm fairly certain they were only around $35. The FRN works as a lightweight material, but I've never really liked it as a handle material.

There is no knife that is more practical for EDC in the real world than the Delica...except maybe the Chaparral LW. The Delica is a superior design and one of my favorites. A lot of knives are just not really practical for everyday modern tasks, if we are honest about it. The Delica certainly is practical. It is not fancy. It simply works.

Exactly. Nicely said.

This is an amazing edc knife. Sliciest blade I have ever seen on a modern folder. Weighs less than a baby’s fart.

Ignoring my fav expensive edcs like my 3.25 inch shamwari, or small sebenza I can think of a knife I like better for edc.

My Kizer Feist. I just love it as an edc knife. It is even smaller in pocket than the delica but still has almost as much blade length.

I think if BenchMade ever decides to be a cool guy and release the Bugout with carbon fibre scales that will be one of the best edcs ever.
Have you checked out the benchmade 531 in g10? Outstanding machining on the g10 and really unbelievable action, lightness and flat ground blade. I personally prefer it for the place in my pocket and consider it comparable to the delica. Cost a little more tho.

Wouldn't they be black in the dark? Bifocals must have had night vision or something.

I’m not a huge griptillian fan. I like the 940 better. I’m just pissed about mine because there is a little blade play side to side unless I want an extremely tight action. Apparently a common problem with 940s

Never been much of a Spyderco fan. I've owned a Worker, a Delica, an Endura and a Jess Horn. The Horn was my favorite. My grandson has them now and he does like them. The only OHO knives I have left are a 20 year old AFCK and a RAT 2. Both get occasional use. My most used knives are SAKs and Case Medium Stockman.

I have seen a lot of people complaining about blade play and off-centering in the 940. It's a shame for a nearly $200 knife.
