In My Opinion, Still the King

Delica 4 is a Hall of Fame knife from a reputation/sales perspective....however I never really bonded with the two I had so they don't reside here any longer. I have two Spydercos that remain; a Centofante 3 (in the safe), and a Native 5 Back FRN that I really prefer over the Delica. I usually carry a traditional slip joint, but when I do carry a modern folder I carry a Benchmade 940-2. Mine arrived with blade perfectly centered and zero blade play up/down or side to side. My modern usually resides in my backpack while the trad is in my pocket. Liked the Delica, but like the Native and 940 much more.

The squire of EDC knives. Hard working. Light. Slicey. Not too fancy. Not too expensive. Not too scary. Middle finger flickable.

I like zdp-189 and deep carry. It hits my pocket more than any other folder.

Big fan of the Delica, a delica 3 was one of my first decent knives and I've given at least a dozen of them away. That being said at $74 I find them less interesting and have a hard time not choosing the mini griptilian for an extra $20.

Gotta be about time for a delica 5, something like the last one love child of the stretch and the Delica 4 would hit the spot.

There are quite a few knives that carry as good as or better than the Delica but there are not many at all that cut as well. Maybe you don't like the look, maybe you don't like frn and maybe you don't like the space the hump takes up in the pocket. All legitimate preferences but none of them bother me and I haven't found a knife in it's class that out performs it. It doesn't have a lot of show but it does have a lot of go.

Delica is good...there's a reason it keeps selling so well.

I do not own one, but would not feel under-equipped carrying one.

I think the mini grip is the way to go, or now the bugout, over the delica. Especially because of the axis lock

I'm a self proclaimed Spyderco fan boi, so of course I love the Delica. It's a classic for a reason. Granted I do EDC others more often like the Bugout or 0450cf but my Delicas still get some carry time too. I really like the wharncliffe CS exclusive with S30V steel. It's a great deal IMO.

Same, I only have one knife in FRN and while I really dig the blade (H1 Spyderhawk) the FRN is pretty meh. It makes sense on a "water knife" but still I don't like it as much as other materials. I've actually contemplated getting an Endura and adding some Wise Men scales, but then I think "Well, that's like a 200$ knife" and for that money you can get a really good other knife and not "just an Endura with aftermarket scales".
Vtoku Endura with denim micarta scales. :D

It took me a couple of tries to understand the Delica, but I adore mine now. I carry a grey one often, its in my pocket today.

Spyderco may have provided some of the most significant stepping stones to where the modern folding knife currently rests. That said, I reckon that if it were possible to sensibly plow through the many candidates, the crown would likely be placed squarely on the pivot of a Sebenza.

I couldn't disagree more. The grind on that blade is atrocious, way too steep, makes it a terrible cutter, which to me is the sole purpose of a knife... To cut!

Give me flat grind and I'm the happiest with the knife I could possibly be, or hollow! But those steep angle grinds that leave the edge looking dwarfed where it meets the blade are worthless!

I only keep the hunk of junk knowing that one day I'll get into changing the edge geometry and possibly grinds, so maybe I can fix what Spyderco clearly effed up!

The Sebenza is awesome, but most people end up babying that knife for a reason (its massive price). Not ideal for a real EDC folder in my opinion.

I'm confused. The Delica (and the one I own) is a supreme cutter because it is a full flat grind.

Not mine. I wish it was, but I bought it before I knew anything about grinds and what I might like or why. One guy told me that mine is called a saber grind. Never heard of it, honestly, but I deeply loathe it.

Yeah, they make saber grind Delicas, and I much prefer the full flat grind. These days, the FFG Delicas are much more popular and common. Look at the pic in my first post and some of the other photos of the Delica posted in this thread.
