I purchased a knife from G GlfSupr which was described to have "razor sharp single beveled blade with close to a mirror finish on the edge". Upon receiving the knife I noticed a bad sharpening job which had chipped the tip of the knife and also had scraped a good portion of the tip of the knife. I contacted the seller and he asked me to send the knife back for a refund. I mailed the knife out the following day. In a short period of time the seller changed his mind and contacted me and says he would no longer refund and he would send the knife back to me upon receiving it. I am attaching the screenshots of our conversation. What is the best way to resolve this?

update: the seller refunded and the knife is on its way back to him. thanks everyone!

OK so write this down because it's important and it affects you.

Never ever use PayPal Friends & Family unless you're sending money to your family or to your close friends. Some random jackass here who doesn't want income reported to the IRS is not your friend.
This thread isn’t about “why I hate PayPal f&f”. Nearly everyone in the exchange uses f&f so beating people over the head about it when they have an issue isn’t helpful. The member in question had 54 positive transaction ratings as well. So do you want to victim-blame here, or do you want to see if you can convince the seller to give back the money? I think the latter is more helpful.

This thread is about a buyer who painted himself into a corner due to a sender's terms.

As for hating PayPal I think you're remembering KELAMA KELAMA you may be very familar with him already and he's the person on the soapbox.

My PayPal account works fine for me. But I comply with the terms or I keep walking.

I'm glad I was able to explain this to you.

You have 2 positive transactions. I have just a bit more than that. Maybe if you had more transactions, you would have noticed that nearly everyone is using f&f on the exchange. Not sure how you think wagging your finger in the OP’s face about ineligibility for claims is helping. We going to change the title “GBU” to “You used f&f? Well, I told you so”?

When you list something for sale or trade, full disclosure is expected. If by chance, you inadvertently overlooked an issue, then it is expected that it is satisfactorily resolved. In this case, there is a condition issue not disclosed. You directed the buyer to return for a refund, and he did so expeditiously. No one is looking for an ass kissing, they are just looking for you to follow through with what was agreed upon. As far as being done with bladeforums, because your interest has moved onto firearms, shouldn’t sway you from doing the right thing and being a man of your word.

The seller described it as “lightly used”, I would never put a knife that’s been sharpened, which based in your photos that knife clearly has been, in that category. I’d be upset too. Pretty weird behavior, he goes from apologizing and offering a return to saying forget it, he’s done with the forums. If he continues to play games you can always try contacting your bank. Most good banks have online purchase protection.

Hopefully the seller has a conscience and will refund your money. From reading the PM's, it doesn't look good that you'll get a refund.
If this is the first time you've been duped, take it as a learning lesson, a costly one no doubt. For your future buys, take time to look at the sellers post areas. In this case the seller is only here to flip knives. Those are the ones to be weary of. I've passed on a lot of knives because of post areas. If a member is a part of the community and posts in other areas of the forum, I feel they have decency and will not renege on their word. It's always a gamble using PPFF if someone is here only to flip knives.
I am just as guilty as anyone else using PPFF, but I've had good luck dealing with members that contribute to the forum besides buying and selling.

If left with no other recourse(such as credit card co), I would conract PP and explain that ff was the only option given to you to pay. I can't say how it would play out, but have heard of them refunding the money in some instances. Just my opinion , but I feel the greater burden is on the seller rather than the buyer to ask for the correct form of PP payment, when using their PP account.
The simple solution of course is for the seller to just take back the item and make a refund, as he should.

My side of the story is that I received the message at work so I responded before I saw the pictures and fully read the description. When I finally had the chance to look at it it was not the condition the knife was in when I shipped it so I immediately contacted the buyer saying I would not be taking it back. In his defense I was already having a shitty day and it could have been worded more nicely with more description as to why I made that decision but I didn’t. And I didn’t feel like doing this because it’s his word against mine.

can you post a picture of the edge before you shipped it to me? I bet you will have the same picture I have here.

also, in your own words you accepted that you knew about the poor sharpening job.

I'll take this guy's advice over yours.

I can explain it to you but I can't understand it for you.

Did the good old “no deal done til both parties are g2g” Bladeforums exchange mantra expire or?

That is the forum rule. And what action do you think Blade Forums can take? Based on the tacts alleged and the documents, the mope has moved on and clearly is indifferent to having his reputation here trashed by his own behavior, Behaps gun forums should be educated, but that is not up to BF.
