Bad inaccurate description of condition by the seller

How many times has PayPal helped someone who knowingly used F&F to pay for goods? I genuinely would like to know.
I think only PP could answer that, but it has happened. I doubt many have even tried, and I would not expect PP will pick up the tab, but if they can charge back against the seller a sympothetic employee just might do it.
There should be no need for PP to settle our disputes anyway. If this seller thinks this doesn't matter since he is going to guns he may be in for a rude awakening when this follows him.

It may fall under mail fraud. You may want to report it to your postal service.

Say what? How is shipping a knife with a chipped edge mail fraud? Now... if he tried to keep it, certainly.

Sucks for OP, but does look like a pretty easy sharpening job if you end up getting stuck with it.

Yes, but asking that the same knife be returned for a refund and then refusing to refund the shipper can go there.

This thread is about a buyer who painted himself into a corner due to a sender's terms.

As for hating PayPal I think you're remembering @KELAMA you may be very familar with him already and he's the person on the soapbox.

My PayPal account works fine for me. But I comply with the terms or I keep walking.

I'm glad I was able to explain this to you.
Minor correction, the would be buyer painted himself into a corner by accepting the sellers terms. He could have chosen not to and kept his money.

Having said that, the seller is a thief.

Yeah that's the real trick; resisting temptation.

The thing is that if the seller listed the knife accurately and kept the price the same I bet it still would have sold.

Op don’t waste your time with the recommended mail fraud tactic 😂😂😂
The seller is a turd that flushed his own rep. Thank you for informing the community. Ill send you $25 for letting us know or get you drunk at blade show. Im the ugly bald guy with the beard. Cheers

Careful op, he’s going to get ya drunk and invite to his single twin sized bed hotel room.

OK so write this down because it's important and it affects you.

Never ever use PayPal Friends & Family unless you're sending money to your family or to your close friends. Some random jackass here who doesn't want income reported to the IRS is not your friend.
I agree with this but virtually ALL sellers require F&F and won't accept G&S. Spark Spark should make G&S mandatory. If someone sells LOTS of knives using PP, then that COULD look like a business, but most of us don't sell that many I suspect.

I posted in tech support a few months ago after one of the rip off sessions that F&F should be banned.

Devil's Advocate I see why he wants to remain laissez faire for the way the exchange works and depend on members good will.

It feels like there are more and more bad actors finding the place and either flat out committing fraud or getting in over their head by selling stuff they don't have yet and when the music stops just deciding to bail when they owe a bunch of people knives/cash.

No, he shouldn't.

He should allow buyers and sellers to do their own due dilligence.. as always.

99% of transactions go off without a hitch.

I agree with this. Why open up a can of worms trying to regulate transactions conducted on this site? Things run smoothly as it is, and thievery is rare. Do your due diligence same as you would anywhere else. This is a forum that happens to have a place people sell knives.. not a knife business that happens to have a forum.

How do you feel about sending a knife and then getting paid if the buyer likes it?

Could be really popular.
How do you feel about simply not engaging in transactions you don't feel comfortable with and not being of the mind to force alterations to other peoples freedom of choice.

Ah yes, "safety". That old gem has been dusted off quite a lot these past few years.
