After reading Katie's private email this morning we have come to the decision we are done with this project after we get the knives shipped that have been paid for by the cut-off date. We are not going to re-open it and we're not going to do this again. This was a SIMPLE process but you would not believe at the people who have made it difficult.

We are going to run 200 knives - there will be no more....ever. Whatever remains unclaimed will be offered for sale here on the forum without the RP# engraved on them. If we have not received payment for a requested knife by the cutoff date then there will be no extensions of time granted.

I would like to say thanks to all of you who took the time to comprehend and follow the rules before asking questions.

Wow, I kinda hoped it wasn't that bad.

Thanks again for making this possible at all to Rowen, RAT and of course to Mrs. Shotty.

I also feel bad that this didn't go well. I'm sorry for any problems and I thank you for the efforts you've all put forth!

The instructions were clear...
Its really very sad that this is what the end results are.
Thanks to all the people who made this a great bargain and a limited edition.

EDITED to add...
I was planning on using this knife... and I will, but in two roles.
First, it will be a great knife.
Second, it will be a glowing reminder that no good deed goes unpunished

The biggest problem is people not reading the sticky thread with the subject line: RAT Pack Knives paid for to date. They email us and say "I'm not listed as being paid" and all the while their number is sitting on that thread as they typed the question. Man, how much friggin' simpler could we have made this? I am out of patience. If that pisses anyone off, then so be it.

Sad to see that the whole project became such a trial for you all.

Well for what it is worth, all the work and effort from each of you is appreciated.

Na, we still love you........... in a manly kinda way. cough cough

Sorry to hear that. Alas, I have to hand back 210 marked midterm examinations today to a group of 2nd year university students who are still under the impression, or have been misleadingly taught in high school, that grades are a negotiable process. If it helps, I know exactly how you feel Jeff!

It's not a trial for us to deal with customers. What is a trial is when a few people cost us a lot of time simply due to them not wanting to read or not being able to understand simple English, thus taking away time that we could be spending with legitimate concerns and questions. RAT is customer oriented but we have no patience for those who do not think for themselves. We don't mind mistakes. We make them and have made them throughout this process, but we don't have time to babysit. I knew going in that this project would cost us some customers since we're pretty much straightforward in what we do and say. But, to be honest, if a customer gets pissed because THEY did something stupid and we privately called them on it, then we didn't need or want that customer to begin with. This forum and the folks who hang with us can be brutally honest. We would not have it any other way. RAT is not about trying to save someone's feelings. To do that would go against our philosophy and actually make it more dangerous for those trying to learn self-sufficiency.

My bad!!! Sorry to make it hard on everyone but I must admit that I was one of the "problem children". I don't have a ton of time and I should have paid more attention....not a excuse but I feel the need for a public apology.

Thanks to RC and all involved.

Jeff,

We truly appreciate you and what you do. I also appreciate the post here. No hard feelings brother. I realize that nowadays a lot of people have too much to do with not a lot of time to do it in, and that's basically the reason we avoid doing direct sales to the public. They just don't have the time anymore to research what they're buying so they send us half a million questions AFTER they make the purchase. I am SO GLAD I am not a knife dealer dealing with the public :D We even "fired" one of our largest wholesaler customers last year simply because we were tired of dealing with their incompetence. Like we have always said, when this quits being fun we are going to walk away from it. It's starting not to be fun anymore.

It might not be my place to say it, but you have a wall of stickies that lead off the RAT forum. I don't know what kind of emails you have received or any idea of how much time you spent on this, but I know I rarely notice if something has changed in the stickies.

It's a pity it fell though.

Yeah, but if you are wondering if you're knife is paid for, wouldn't you purposely check the sticky thread that says "Hey Guys, this is the thread that we post all the paid for knives in!"

The Stickies are their to help take the time to read the title of the sticky threads...
I hate that Jeff & Katie had such hard time with this....I read all the private emails & pm's as well and some people are freaking Rude as hell ,I am glad I was not in the middle where Katie is at or I would of Cancelled the whole project altogether & refunded those who have paid and actually did it correctly.

OT but I have a question... my RC5 has a hole in the side, it must be defective, can I order a replacement?

JUST KIDDING!
The divot is one reason I like the RC5, I thought it was ingenius.
I dont understand how people dish out money for anything they have not handled have not seen and have not done any research on!
I heard about RAT on another forum (ZS, and yes Im one of "those" freaks), it was highly recommended by someone I have never met but I respect his opinion. I did my own research on the company and its products and I still didnt buy for a couple months. Checking on the company and watching reveiws all the while to see what complaints were out there.

I would like to say thanks and apologize, I followed the instructions here but I have been an ass before (no one is immune to that I guess) Jeff, Mike, Tony, Mr & Mrs S, anyone left out... your all a good bunch of folks.
I hope this doesnt taint things so bad that you ever decide to stop making blades, that would be a real shame.

Sorry it came out like this Jeff.

I mean damn, once everything was hashed out for details, it was as simple as it could have been made.

ETA: Don't stop being honest, Jeff (or anyone else). I may not always agree with or like what a straight-shooter says, but I can never trust an asskisser.

Wow, I paid for my knife on the first day and have purposefully kept my mouth shut and stayed away from posting and emailing anything regarding the Rat Pack Knife. I know you all have enough to do without being bothered by questions / concerns that are readily answered simply by reading.

It is a shame that so many dim-wits can't take the time to simply read the pertinent posts instead of asking stupid questions and posting stupid posts.

My condolences to those who have worked so hard to make this happen for us. I APPRECIATE so much everything you have done on my / our behalf.

Best regards, Les.
