Incompetency and the RAT Pack Knife

Being a newbie here I'm disappointed to hear I won't have a chance for a next edition knife BUT I fully understand the reason. I still come out a winner as I now have 3 quality RC knives ! People who volunteer their time are usually treated badly and this has proven that to be true. I've been impressed with Mrs. Shotty's dedication to making this happen and even though I'm not getting one of these knives I'd like to say thanks to all who made it happen. Kudo's to Jeff for trying it to begin with. Love the forum and the knives folks-Thanks. :)

Welcome to the RAT family! And, from the sounds of it, you might get your chance to grab on that hasn't been claimed.

Wow, I can't see how so many people would f!@# this up. The rules were as straight forward as they can get and there were 2-3 stickies covering the whole thing.

Well, thank you to all that had to deal with this. I have a feeling Mrs. Shotty will have to change her email after this, because I'm sure people will still email about the knife even after it's over. Oh well, thanks everyone.

As someone said a few posts back, All you had to do was make the payment via paypal and sit back and wait! That is what I did and it seemed really smooth and simple. Thanks to all of you guys for your hard work on this project.

As a member of the public and a member of the Rat Pack, I thank all parties involved for this project. REALLY cool of you to do this, and it really, really sucks that it has been such a headache.

As a member of the group of people that READ THE GODDAMNED STICKIES AND PAYED ATTENTION....you are welcome. :D

Sorry this turned out to be a goat rope. I still think it's a damn cool idea and am glad I got to participate--besides, I want an RC-3! Thanks very much to the key personnel who made it possible and put so much work into the project. I believe that in the long run it will have been a very positive effort for the RAT pack and the forum.

One day it'll seem funny and pass into legend.

After a few drinks maybe.

I know why people were emailing asking if their number was on the paid list. I paid then checked the next day and I was there. Here is why it got confusing to people. It was a sticky post. They clicked on it sometime to see what the post was all about. The next time they visit, the post is not in bold letters anymore, meaning there were no new posts. They then purchase their knife and wait a couple days and the paid for post is still not in bold meaning there were no new posts. Their number was there but it was an edit not a reply. So they are left thinking nothing has been added to the post because not bold anymore. Since it was not bold amymore, they did not click it again. Get it?

And to everyone who made this knife possible, THANK YOU!

I understand what your saying, but all it takes is a few extra seconds to click on the post and see if there has been anything edited. And for what your getting a few extra seconds is nothing, not to mention that RAT has done things that way since I've been a member of the group, so it's not a new concept.

And please understand, if I sound harsh, it's not a personal attack, I'm simply stating fact here. I shouldn't have to even mention that, but I've had people take what I say the wrong way on other forums, and it creates a sh!tstorm of problems. Apparently I'm a little too blunt and honest for my own good..... just ask my friends. :D

Takes less time to check that sticky than it does to email. I'm sorry, but if that's the excuse people are going to give then it's a pretty lame one.

Patience is a virtue.

not to sound like an ass but if you are not smart enough to order a forum knife by following simple directions...........maybe you should not have sharp objects......just sayin.......

Lol, good advice.

Sorry to hear about the mess. I hate when things work out like this, has happened to me enough to really dislike doing somethings in a group. You can only manage things to a point, after that, people need to handle their business. If they can't do that, the screw up is on them. Better to have customers you can be honest with like you said too. Could have sugar coated every mistake they made, but the problems would have persisted.

I dont see anyone using it as an excuse. I was just pointing out that is where some people did not get it. Simple mistake. They atleast should have checked before emailing. It sucks, I would have liked a special Izula in an exclusive Rat Pack color. Or if they ever do another RP knife, build them before saying anything, then offer them for sale only on the forum only to RP memebers.

it's a bummer how this has turned out, but i'm glad i'll be getting my knife. thanks to jeff, mrs. s, and all for making this possible.

I'm not surprised. I worked retail for a few years and hated some customers. There are actually some people that you CAN NOT make happy, no matter what you say or do (sadly).

On the other hand, I made some real friends who were really nice people too. Thank God there were enough nice ones, to keep you from strangling the other grumpy basturds.

I also want to tip my weathered, camp-fire smelling, burnt-hole bush hat to those who HELPED make this project happen (Jeff, The S's, Tony, CRR, etc...) as a giant THANK YOU not only for the forum knife but for all of the helpful advice in the past!!

Simple mistake? Maybe.

But before pointing fingers and raising hell they should've stopped and checked the list or even the PayPal transaction for that matter. I just don't see how there could be any excuse for not understanding the process. I had never even used PayPal before purchasing the RAT Pack knife, and it took maybe 2-3 steps to set it up and only 1 to actually order the knife. It's not hard to understand. I know people make mistakes, but if they're too stupid to check a simple list before sending off an email then (like previously stated) they shouldn't have sharp objects.

It's not a trial for us to deal with customers. What is a trial is when a few people cost us a lot of time simply due to them not wanting to read or not being able to understand simple English, thus taking away time that we could be spending with legitimate concerns and questions. RAT is customer oriented but we have no patience for those who do not think for themselves. We don't mind mistakes. We make them and have made them throughout this process, but we don't have time to babysit. I knew going in that this project would cost us some customers since we're pretty much straightforward in what we do and say. But, to be honest, if a customer gets pissed because THEY did something stupid and we privately called them on it, then we didn't need or want that customer to begin with. This forum and the folks who hang with us can be brutally honest. We would not have it any other way. RAT is not about trying to save someone's feelings. To do that would go against our philosophy and actually make it more dangerous for those trying to learn self-sufficiency.

Sorry to hear that the project ended up being such a hassle.

But dealing directly with retail customers can be very trying indeed.

Retail takes a lot of hand-holding and assuaging peoples' feelings.

"Making the customer feel special." and all that.

It can be very, very financially rewarding as Sam Walton and other great retailers discovered over the years.

But it does take a certain type of person to excel at retail.

Seems that you're much better off being manufacturers/designers rather than as retailers. ;)
