Incompetency and the RAT Pack Knife

I certainly hope this is just jungle withdrawal :), the absolute rarity of a company that is more concerned with being honorable, than with sales volume, with talking honestly instead of providing lip-service, and with providing quality instead of taking advantage would make it such a damn shame to loose, or as to even cause doubt as to the place such a company holds in the world. It is becoming so rare to encounter quality people in this world.

If you must do something become a bit more reclusive, but don't stop making knives please.

YES! You would be surprised what goes on behind the scenes! I truly feel bad for the people that did cooperate and follow the directions. They are the reason why the project continued. I've spent many nights up really late working on the project to turn and and wake up really early to a shit storm. A babysitter I am not. I have kids and I don't need 300+ more husbands/children to guide along so they don't fall in the mud puddles. If you need your hand held find another "mom" because it's not me.

I tried to funnel legitimate questions and be nice even when I wanted to lose my mind. At this point it's just gone way to far and some have obviously pissed THE MAN off.

Jforbush- thanks for manning up and apologizing. Wish the people that were rude could have done so.

RON- RAT'S not stopping making knives. We are just no longer taking orders for the RAT pack knife. This post is just regarding the special edition run being done right now.

I was a dumbass and apologized to Jeff in advance for being not very bright - my confusion with the list came from the fact that my number was on it from the beginning even before I paid. I was expecting to see "paid" beside it or have something magical happen when the payment went thru I guess. I'm almost never rude and certainly wouldn't be to El Jefe Randall!!!

I tell my PHTLS guys all the time to "RTFQ" (Read the F*ckin' Question) - guess I should have taken the advice myself...:foot:

No problems, bro. We only post numbers to the list when we receive a paid receipt from paypal.

I'm more and more disappointed at how this is turning out day by day.

This was such an exciting project at it's inception and it's turning into such a clusterf#*k.

To the folks who followed the simple instructions, thank you. You folks make this worth doing.

To those of you who turned this wooden block into a Rubix cube......sheesh.

Wow, I paid for my knife on the first day and have purposefully kept my mouth shut and stayed away from posting and emailing anything regarding the Rat Pack Knife. I know you all have enough to do without being bothered by questions / concerns that are readily answered simply by reading.

It is a shame that so many dim-wits can't take the time to simply read the pertinent posts instead of asking stupid questions and posting stupid posts.

My condolences to those who have worked so hard to make this happen for us. I APPRECIATE so much everything you have done on my / our behalf.

Best regards, Les.

I couldn't have said it better. I know for a fact that Mrs. S has devoted loads of time to this and she deserves a frickin' medal for it. From the bottom of my tiny, shriveled heart, thank you Jeff, Mrs. S, Mr. S, Mike, Shon, and Tony.

Jeff and Mrs S,

I simply don't understand why folks made this so hard on you and I'm sorry that it worked-out (or didn't!) the way it did. It should have been simple: Get a RAT Pack #, pay your money, wait for knife.

That being said, I've spent 26 years working directly with the public. In that time, I have learned that a small minority of people will take EVERY opportunity to bitch, complain and generally make things much harder than they need to be and make those TRYING to help them absolutely miserable in the process.

Allow me to thank you both for what you've done to make this happen. I truly appreciate the effort and understand the frustrations you've endured. Trust that the majority of we RAT Packers know what an outstanding program this really is and how special an opportunity it is for us.

Again, Thanks.

RAT Pack # 177

I cant understand how people made this so hard.

Big thanks to EVERYONE involved in getting this knife made.

Sorry for the troubles!

Well, ain't this all just a kick in the head. Ya'll go out and try to bring something special to your customers and you have to run the gamut of stupidity to get half-assed cooperation. I'm sorry you all had to go through this, you were doing something nice and your hands were bitten for it.

Maybe for those who were rude and or overly simple minded but still managed to get the payment in by the deadline (surely after you have held their hand and gotten many a headaches) could get a nice "MORON" emblazoned on the tang of their RP knife.

A big thanks and  to everyone who were involved in running the project.

Yup no good deed goes unpunished. I learned a similiar lesson with a church and a small group I led. People have no appreciation of what goes on behind the scenes. They all wanna live in their own personal wonderland.

Personally I can't think of a single reason why anyone, let alone RP members, would be rude to Jeff, Mr and Mrs Shotty, TTD. Period. This project was about a lot more then a special knife, it was about a community, forum members that love not only the product, and the company, but also the RP forum and the other members.

I did notice that during the RP knife start up, we got a lot of new folks asking to get into the RP (can I pleeeze have my RP number Mrs Shotty, I have 4 posts, thats almost 25 right? oh pleeeze....) But for anyone to think that they had the right to be rude to Katie over any of this is unimaginable. Same for Jeff, and everyone else that helped the project along. Not only unimaginable, but inexcusable as well.

As a matter of fact, I can say that if that is how you behave, then you truly haven't a clue what being a RAT Pack member means.

I dont understand how people dish out money for anything they have not handled have not seen and have not done any research on!
[/QUOTE]

Well, not everybody has a brick and mortar store just around the corner stocking RAT Cutlery, especially here in Europe. All my knifes have been bought online without a chance to handle them inc. my RAT's. Even with alot of research and pic comparison its still a gamble, and a few of my purchases have been sent back cos i didnt like them.

So after the 13th, any unpaid knives out of the 200 will be available on the forums for sale, but without individualized RP numbers?

Jeff,

We truly appreciate you and what you do. I also appreciate the post here. No hard feelings brother. I realize that nowadays a lot of people have too much to do with not a lot of time to do it in, and that's basically the reason we avoid doing direct sales to the public. They just don't have the time anymore to research what they're buying so they send us half a million questions AFTER they make the purchase. I am SO GLAD I am not a knife dealer dealing with the public :D We even "fired" one of our largest wholesaler customers last year simply because we were tired of dealing with their incompetence. Like we have always said, when this quits being fun we are going to walk away from it. It's starting not to be fun anymore.

You were right for doing so. I know of whom you speak and I'm pretty darn ticked with them too. We had a great sales rep, but the rest of the company just doesn't measure up!

[rant] Sorry that everything went so poorly with this, but holy crap everyone--how was this confusing at all? Instructions were clearly laid out from the get-go, in the original thread, on the webpage where you ordered the thing, and in multiple stickies and threads! Now the party's ruined. :grumpy: [/rant]

I had mine squared away the day they came up for sale and haven't had any questions to date. Thanks again, Jeff, Katie, and the rest of the crew for doing this in the first place. I'm just sad that things ended up the way they did. :(

I'd say so, seeing as the papa rat said so.

After reading Katie's private email this morning we have come to the decision we are done with this project after we get the knives shipped that have been paid for by the cut-off date. We are not going to re-open it and we're not going to do this again. This was a SIMPLE process but you would not believe at the people who have made it difficult.

We are going to run 200 knives - there will be no more....ever. Whatever remains unclaimed will be offered for sale here on the forum without the RP# engraved on them. If we have not received payment for a requested knife by the cutoff date then there will be no extensions of time granted.

I would like to say thanks to all of you who took the time to comprehend and follow the rules before asking questions.

Wow. Just wow. I hate to have seen it come to this. I hope I haven't been part of the idioticy. This was a very cool thing you did and I'm very happy to see it coming through. The hassle for you makes me sad.

I was so ready to suggest a neon lime green handled rc4 next. But I think that'd get me killed. If I ever get to meet anyone who pulled this knife off, im gonna buy you a drink or twenty.

What the heck are people screwing up?
Ordering basically involved making a paypal payment.
