Incompetency and the RAT Pack Knife

See. This is why Jeff loves me. I may be "less than smart" and I may be a dick, but damnit... I follow directions to the T.

I know our little group has been call a (clique) at times...however, I would like to beleave the people who participate the most on the forum were the ones that followed the directions....It was strange to see a group of names complaining about having to have 25 posts just to get a rat pack number to get "in on the forum knife"......yet most of those names I have not really seen since....anyways just a thought.....I would like to also thank everone involved especially Mrs. Shotty for all the work you've done.....Be looking for a token of appriciation from the drewcrew in the mail....Thanks again

Really sorry to hear its been such a PIA.

I just don't understand how some people can be so self centered that they don't see the troubles they are causing to others by being in their own la la land.

Thanks to Jeff and Mrs. Shotty for slugging through all the crap. I do think the RAT pack knife is something special, and now even more so because of the extreme work it took to complete the process. I completely understand not wanting to do that again.

Thanks again guys, just remember, the silent majority that did follow directions really appreciates your work dealing with the ones that didn't.

It's disappointing, but certainly understandable, that there'll be no more RP edition knives due to the incompetence of others:thumbdn:. However, it is good to hear that you guys don't take shit from nobody. Props to you for that, I still need to refine my no-BS attitude.

Thank you to everyone involved for all the ridiculously stressful work involved. Guess it'll just make me cherish the RP knife even more. All that blood, sweat and tears.

RON- RAT'S not stopping making knives. We are just no longer taking orders for the RAT pack knife. This post is just regarding the special edition run being done right now.

I wasn't trying to propagate some manner of my own ridiculous Internet rumor, but frustration gives way to more frustration. So since i didn't want to bash anyone at all, and any negative comment may be read as such, i chose to try to speak up a good bunch. Try to put a bit of proverbial wind in the forum's "sail".

p.s. I said wind, not hot air. :D

I'm sorry that this turned into such a hard time for all who worked so hard to make it happen. It's unbelievable and saddening to hear that you guys received anything but the utmost respect and gratitude for making this happen. I am really excited about this knife but I have to say that it is somewhat muted now that I know what a pain in the ass it has turned into for the RAT crew. If you ask me, any idiots who were impatient rude or disrespectful to those who made this happen for us need to find someplace else to spend their time. Thanks again to all involved (especially you Mrs. Shotty) :)

I'm calling mine the "Read the Rules Knife" from now on. :D:thumbup:

I would like to add my apologizes for this being a hassle, it's a truely great thing that you at RAT have decided to do for us, and the fact that some people made it a PITA really pisses me off.....

You guys make a great product and have some of the best customer service I have ever seen, regardless of industry, and to see some people think they can piss all over it because of their ignorance is truely a shame...... just my personal opinion.

It’s tough to do. I don’t know if it is that people are too busy, too excited, too lazy or too dim to get the simplest of things sometimes.

On one of my gun forums (where I discovered RAT knives) there was an effort made to get shirts made for the Missouri members. It turned in to a cluster just like the RAT Pack knife has seemed to. People pissing and moaning about coming up with a design, people ordering 15 shirts and complaining because they had to pre-pay, then having to track those people down to pick up their shirts that were already paid for!

Cheese and crackers, you order something, pay for it, provide info to get the product to you, receive product, use product! I wasn’t even involved in this RAT Pack knife deal and I still feel bad for all parties involved. I feel your pain.

There were several new RAT users, myself included that thought “Bummer, I’ll try to get in on the next one…” So much for that!

I had no problem with ordering the knife at all. But if there is one thing I have learned in customer service its that nothing is foolproof, because fools are ingenious. If that many people were having problems the information may not have been laid out clearly.
Honestly all we had to do to successfully order the knife was give you money and trust you had the plan. Some people like to know how things are working exactly, and that wasn't clear. The result is that the fools became ingenious at being wrong as many different ways as possible..

I know its too late, but a directory may have helped clear some confusion of the multiple stickies, or just a "here is how the process works" thread. A little more hard work in the beginning can smooth these things out in the long run. I don't mean to blame you for your hard work, I'd like that to be clear. You are futher proof that no good deed goes unpunished. People are just stucking fupid sometimes.

Anyways, thanks again for the time you spent making this special knife.

I'm new here and find this disappointing, but not surprising.

I'm disappointed because here we have a knife maker the really gives a Rats Ass(no pun intended). Is always trying to get folks out using the product. Takes time to participate here. Actively engages in helping when issues arise, and he's left banging his head against the wall in frustration.

I'm not surprised, because I'm in construction equipment sales, and dealing with people especially lately has me reaching the same levels of frustration. The levels of rudeness, laziness, ignorance, and sense of entitlement are nothing short of astounding.

I'm saddened because I got here too late for the knife but figured I get one next time around. It would seem that ship has now sailed.

Jeff, my suggestion to you would be go do whatever it is you enjoy, walk the dog in the woods. Dinner out, Beer, whatever floats your boat. You just can't let this stuff get to you. Life is too short. You're frustrated because you care and that is a good thing. A co-worker of mine asked, why do you let it get to you? My response was, if I can't do it right why bother.

You guys have a great product and an even better business model. It would be a sad day if you let it all go. "Don't let the losers win" comes to mind. All really great success stories come with equally great challenges to overcome.

You have my support.

I personally can understand not being able to pay because something came up, sh!t happens sometimes that you don't plan for. Not to use this as an excuse for not paying quite yet (since I haven't), but I personally had my paycheck that I was going to use to purchase my knife get put in someone else's account. I've been fighting with the bank to get my money back for a little bit now, and it doesn't help that the deadline to pay is getting closer and closer..... So I can see if you can't pay because of a random situation.

What really pisses me off, and I think is the main complaint that Jeff has, is the group that had a chance to vote on what they wanted and still complain about every little thing. We all voted, we all were as involved as we personally wanted to be in the planning, so we should live with the results. Not everyone got exactly what they wanted in all the details, but get over it! You still get an amazing RAT knife at an unheard of price......what the hell is there to complain about?

But, like everyone else has said, sometimes the best intentions are met with the worst of results. I would just like to say again to the RAT people that I personally thank them for all their hard work in getting this together..... and I promise I will get my payment in before the deadline... :o

I think a lot of folks have been brainwashed by the industry at large, and lose track of what attracted them to RAT knives in the first place: they're simple, down-to-earth tools. :o

The looks really don't matter that much because the coatings are going to wear and get scratched, and the handles are going to get covered in dirt anyway! :D

As long as the screws on my blade say 'ratpack' and not 'fudgepack', I'm going to be happy with what comes :D :D :D

(Levity usually helps situations like these)

....At least Jeff hasn't officially changed us from being ratpackers yet, perhaps in private he has :)

Agree 100%! Who cares what color the screws are? They aren't going to stay new looking for long..... at least mine wont! :D

I think your right about your first point as well, RAT is a different kind of knife for a different kind of person..... and I mean that in the best possible way. :p Seriously though, I think that most true "RATs" see this for what it is, a great knife that has a great story behind it. Tell me when the last time was that you heard of any knife company doing something like this, and giving you an amazing discount on the knife to boot.... I haven't ever seen it before. That's why I think it's truely a shame that some people have to ruin it for the rest of us, they are never and will never be satisfied with anything, and the rest of us have to suffer for it. Jeff and the gang are doing something that they really care about and want to share with us and some people still wanna sh!t all over it. Such a shame....... :(

Being a newbie here I'm disappointed to hear I won't have a chance for a next edition knife BUT I fully understand the reason. I still come out a winner as I now have 3 quality RC knives ! People who volunteer their time are usually treated badly and this has proven that to be true. I've been impressed with Mrs. Shotty's dedication to making this happen and even though I'm not getting one of these knives I'd like to say thanks to all who made it happen. Kudo's to Jeff for trying it to begin with. Love the forum and the knives folks-Thanks. :)
