Infraction discussion.

I didn't ask you what I did. I asked for the rule itself.

Go to FAQs and find this under infractions:

"Racism / Bigotry / etc
Keep it off our site. Period.

This infraction can be issued as a warning. It does not expire. It is worth 30 points towards your total"

You are on the wrong side of this one, ATS. If you are wise you will just log off and do something else for a while.

My problem here is that we're bound as members by an agreement to follow the rules and the rules as written weren't broken. Yet privileges that I've paid actual money for have been revoked and the party or parties that are responsible for that action refuse to respond.

Racism itself is what is forbidden in the rules. A racist term used in a statement void of race is no more an act of racism than "Amen brother" in response to a statement about how V8s are better than V6s is religious activism.

If they want to amend the rules to outlaw any and all use of racial epithets, that's well within Spark's rights as owner of the forum. But you can't cite a breach of the rules as cause for revocation of purchased privileges when the rules as written weren't there broken.

Ultimately this thread was started at Marrow's behest. I wanted to discuss it with him/her or Spark. It's a public forum though so responses go back and forth. I wanted to discuss it in PMs.

Exactly. There was no racism, bigotry, etc. in my post.

You are not the one to decide if your language gets taken as racism, the people who read your post and determined it was infraction-worthy are the ones that made the decision.

"Custom infractions

Let's face it - we can't write out every rule. As such, if someone truly finds a new way to act out, we'll issue a custom infraction or a different point total for an existing one.

This is used at our discretion. If you act in a polite, courteous manner, you don't have to worry about anything. If you act like a petulant, spoiled child, troll, try the mod's patience or otherwise act out, well then it sucks to be you

This infraction may be issued as a warning, with various point totals."

Did I guess right? What did I win?

No, that wasn't the infraction that was cited. That one would have been harder to argue with. You won an old beater griptilian as consolation.

I honestly don't understand where you are coming from, man. Use of racial epithets is considered racism by most people. That is why many people won't say the n word in any circumstance. Would you have used that phrase in normal company? In addition, the rule is racism/bigotry/etc. Note the etc. Just don't say it anymore. Problem solved, right?

Sure, but my paid status is revoked by an infraction that doesn't expire. I'm a gold member. If it was just a superficial infraction or a "blemish on my personal record" I'd just agree to disagree and move on.

Pot calling a kettle black refers to the color of a pot and a kettle, both of which are black.

I never read the version where the pot was a racist.

I'm starting to believe you that maybe your neighbors did in fact intentionally mess up the buff job on your vehicle.

You broke the rules... Period. You can't use that word. Period. You're being pissy over semantics of the infraction you received. There's no way you can argue that words use doesn't fall under verbage that could earn you an infraction.

What part of that did I break? Vulgar, obscene, etc. don't apply to the W&C forum.

That kind of sucked. They should have just banned you to avoid having to deal with the aftermath of taking away something you paid for.

But you don't get to use that word on this site. There is no intention button to push, so the words are the words. Don't use them.

Your paid status was not revoked. You don't have enough infraction points to have been banned. There is no revocation short of that. Check to see when your last subscription expired.

This doesn't make any sense. The infraction system has nothing to do with membership level (unless you're actually banned), and mods simply don't have the ability to revoke your paid membership.

i seem to recall that there is wording that says something like, even if you paid for it, if revoked, it's gone, no refunds, no nothing.

there's the letter of the law, which lawyer types love...

and there's the spirit... which gives more leeway...

it's a privately owned forum, with rules, ultimately the rules can be interpreted by the owner, and assigned mods... freedom of speech is not a thing in that case.

offend. consequences. gaming the system never goes over well.

The N-word is both vulgar and obscene no matter how you use it, I am amazed there are still people out there that don't get that fact :0/

I would love to get a look at a CT scan of this guys head, The bone density must be off the charts ;0)
