Infraction discussion.

Your paid status was not revoked. You don't have enough infraction points to have been banned. There is no revocation short of that. Check to see when your last subscription expired.

Then why am I showing simply as a registered user? I'm not able to post in the for sale area either.

Click on "settings" in the upper right corner, scroll down to "paid subscriptions" click that and you will see the expiration date of your membership. I'd wager its simply expired. Infractions, as said before, Do Not revoke paid subscriptions.

You need a written rule telling you not to use the n-word or you think its OK to use the n-word...?

Sorry, no. Context doesn't matter here.

I'd give it a rest for now. Check on things another day. It is what it is.

come into the sub-forums i help moderate? use a bad word like that?

3 2 1 watch how fast you are permanently banned, with super-mod backup approval.

please, to remember, Bladeforums dot com is a privately owned forum without any freedom of speech rights.

people have been banned for so much less.

course, i could be forgetting myself :D no guarantees. however, i think i have the right of it today.

I'm going to post here as a test as much as any thing. What I wrote last night got me tossed out by some watch dog service. I forget what it was called and I wasn't so into posting that I could follow all the hoops they wanted me to jump through but any way here goes the test :
I wrote : since I am all up in the Spyderco forum I will ask one more question
and bango
I took out "all up in" and it didn't help. Still couldn't post it.
Can't I say that ?
PS:
Well it didn't toss me out this time

I renewed in February. Doesn't show any sort of expiration. Just lists what's available to purchase.

In anything other than W&C or Pirates Cove I'd expect as much.

Let's put it this way:

You're in a bar known to have a bad reputation. "Where bastards come to roost" if you will...

You quote a passage from Tom Sawyer (including the n-word) to your buddies.

Bouncer overhears and tells you to watch your language.

Do you argue with him that you didn't do anything wrong and point to the "no shirt, no service" sign saying you don't see anything about the n-word there?

Or do you apologize and shut up?

You have to wonder if using the word "dirty" in front of the N-word may have had something to do with you getting dinged at warp speed ;0)

You should have been tossed out on your head for that one ;0)

BladeForums doesn't have any kind of filter/watchdog thing like that or anything that would make you jump through hoops to post or "toss you" while posting AFAIK. If you're on a PC then you might wanna do a malware scan. If you're on a phone or something then it might be the "app"?

I renewed in February. Doesn't show any sort of expiration. Just lists what's available to purchase.

That's weird. Getting an infraction (unless it bans you) should in no way affect your membership and mods can't alter user groups. Some odd software glitch? Hopefully Spark will see this and look into it.

Exactly. There was no racism, bigotry, etc. in my post.

I wasn't going to touch this one, but I can't bite my tongue any longer.

Let me put it this way. As a man with a lot of friends in every color of the rainbow, if I heard you use the term you did, in person, in ANY context, you would have a big problem on your hands.

Do you understand? The context is unimportant. The term itself is repugnant, and inherently, in and of itself, racist.

Take your well deserved lumps, and live and learn.

This thread is funny. In case you haven't learned this by now, the N-word is not very socially acceptable. So let this be a lesson to you, if you go around using it, in any context, it will likely not be met in a friendly way. It may be something you use in your circle of friends, but in many places you are likely to upset people greatly. And rightly so. The history attached with that word is vile and ugly.

I just don't understand what you don't get, there are no-no words you used on and got your knuckles slapped.

Your account switching to registered user, although an odd coincidence, has no connection to the infraction. When did you last re-up your membership? The only time membership can me impacted by an infraction is when someone goes over the point limit and their account is auto-banned by the software.

Spark stated his desire to keep racism / bigotry off the site in the FAQ. I really don't know how much clearer he could have been. You decided to "enhance" a well known and often used idiom (pot calling the kettle black) with a racial epithet. Why? To get a reaction? Mission accomplished. "Keep it off our site. Period." means exactly that.

Feel free to explain your intentions. It is possible to reissue this as a warning to remove the points but that would depend on you and your explanation.

I feel like you're groping after the use/mention distinction, essentially arguing that you mentioned the word rather than used it. But that distinction pretty much only holds up in academic discussion and, even then, that particular word is generally censored because of the incredible history of virulent racism associated with it.

And even within the context of the use/mention distinction your particular phrasing doesn't really pass the smell test.

I'll be honest, I think what you're primarily accomplishing is managing to make more and more users aware of your willingness to use a particularly vile racial epithet on these forums.

I renewed my membership in February. As stated, I'm fine with the infraction, but I'm not ok with the loss of purchased privileges. If the two don't have anything to do with one another then we can drop the previous subject entirely.

We do however still need to remedy the membership issue.

And here it is again. This ridiculous notion that W&C is the neutral zone. Whine & Cheese is NOT a "free for all" subforum. That mentality has been the bane of many an opinionated member. Whine & Cheese is more regulated and moderated than you might imagine.
An example
Think of the wild west town where the cowboy had to check his gun in at the sheriffs office. You couldn't carry it in town.
Then you had the smaller towns were you kept your trusty pistol holstered at your side.
One place no gun, the other place yes gun.
It's like that now in Colorado, open carry is legal in some places, but not in others.
With me so far?
But note, it was never okay to shoot ones fellow citizen in EITHER place.
In your situation you used a taboo word universality recognized on Blade Forums as an offensive, racist, politically incorrect, prejudiced, bigoted term. Hands down. You keep trying to justify your use of it by claiming the context you exhibited makes the word less offensive, less racist, less prejudiced, less bigoted. That's like claiming arsenic isn't poison because you mixed it in cranberry juice.
