Ink in the Meat- Tattoo Thread

Thanks Lora!

Chiller2, I have never had any issues finding a good artist until I moved to philly. Most states I have been in, I just walked into any shop... and if the guy seemed cool, I handed him my money and things always turned out great. But I dont like this city, the people here all have bad attitudes, and everyone is always trying to hustle everyone. Im not a people person by any means, so if im going to be spending hours at a time with someone I need to atleast be able to tolerate the person......

Lora that new piece is beautiful!

Thanks Jody!

I am thinking about getting my first one. Anybody got any tips on how to find a good artist and/or shop?

I like to do some digging to look at the previous tattoos they have done and see when the artist has a forte in. Some people excel in realism and detailed work where others excel in more traditional styles. It really depends on what you're interested in getting done. Most shops have a social network page, try Facebook. They typically separate each artist's work in different albums. If you can't find them on a social network, try going to different shops and talking to the artists. They're typically more than willing to show off the work that they have done. Good luck in your search

The artist we have been using lately is an old friend, unfortunately he is in Florida. Hoping to get him up here to visit and do some inkwork while he is here. I HATE the Philly attitude...having said that, come to the dark side, we have really good artists here in NJ, if you are anywhere near Torresdale just come over the bridge...my cousin lives in Philthadelphia and it usually takes me 45 minutes to get to her. I can put you in touch with some really good shops out here.

Six or seven years.

when I first "re met" Jody his NO REGRETS was only an outline, my friend in Florida went back over it and shaded it in, it looks fantastic now.
Lora, I agree, the new ink is beautiful, such vibrant colors!!
Great pics everyone, I am glad I dug it back up.

Well got my first tattoo today Will post another picture when its healed. I am hoping it looks better when healed but some of the line work looks rough right now and the circle is kind of off, but maybe I am being hyper-critical.

the important thing is to keep a very thin layer of A&D ointment on it until it is fully healed. That will keep it protected. Once it's gotten to the scabby point of healing, discontinue the A&D and use a good unscented moisturizer, I recommend Aveeno. Don't pick at it when it scabs, just let them fall off naturally, lol resist the urge to pick and scratch. Since you said it, I have to agree, the circle does look a little off, uneven perhaps? BUT the healed result may differ, so, don't sweat it just now :) congrats on your first tatt.

Yeah I would prefer scabbing to itching. I was a little worried about the pain but it wasn't that bad, I have had fire ant bites that were worse cost $150 which seemed reasonable.

Thanks Sue I put a layer of anti-biotic ointment and a nonstick bandage over it as soon as I got home. Appreciate the advice on the scabs and ointment

I use to use the A&D ointment religiously, but then I found this stuff, I tried it the first time over a year ago and I love it! My tattoos heal so so much faster and cleaner. And i dont get the little red pimple looking things i get from using A&D ointment. Its not as cheap as the A&D though. But after i got it and used it on a fresh tattoo, when i went back to my artist even he was surprised how much quicker i was healing up, and he had done quite a bit of work in me so he could see the difference.... Its good stuff seriously.

DON'T PUT A BANDAGE ON IT. That will actually draw out more of the ink and hinder the healing.

WW... I've never gotten the bumps from A & D, I am wondering if maybe you have a slight allergy to something in it? I've heard very good things about that stuff you are using though.

OK I took it off. Worldwood I am gonna order some of that stuff.

just trying to help out, I have close to 30 tatts now and have learned a lot over the years. use the ointment til your stuff that you order comes, really, protection and moisturizing are KEY. Oh and put old sheets on the bed, ones you don't care about, when the ink bleeds out it is really a bear to get out of cloth.

Your welcome and congrats!!

I agree on the sheets!! I have pissed the wife off more than once with ink and a little blood on her sheets LMAO

And Sue it is very possible i have an allergy to A&D, my skin is sensitive to some stuff like fake jewelry, so maybe something in that also gives me bumps.

haha usually Jody and I are getting tatted together, I am used to washing the blood and ink out of everything. After the one on his back he woke up and there was a perfect replica of his tatt on the sheet, we found the humor in that. His skin tends to not hold the ink as well as mine does, but he doesn't need much touching up. This is a cute little bat on my foot, I don't think I have posted this pic yet.
