Inquiry about the Sibert162 Bushcrafter.

Please, post your research findings on these Spyderco Bushcraft breaks. There was a BF thread aout one sample being broken after being batoned into a log with the assistance of a hammer...that's it, then hardly an issue with the knife.

One blade broken doesn't warrent a redesign of the holes in the blade. Sounds like someone is drinking the cool aid.
:)

I have 2 G-10 Spydercos , and they're tough as hell. When they made the G-10 run , Spyderco eliminated one of the lightening holes just behind the blade under the scales to make it stronger.

I just received my Benchmade Bushcrafter the other day. My initial doubts about the handle ergonomics are put to rest. This handle is great on this knife ( at least to me.) The forward swell worried me , but it actually enhances the normal full handed grip on the knife. Even in reverse grip , chest-lever etc . it feels fine. I really love this knife , and the sheath isn't too bad at all. I'll see how it holds up over time. No worries if it fails as I make my own sheaths anyways , but as it stands it's good to go.

This knife is one heck of a tough built unit that's going to work well for all sorts of bushcraft tasks. :)

How long have you had yours? Are they both from the same run...IE did you purchase them at the same time?

I'm just trying to get a feel for when it may be safe to assume all of them are okay.

Thanks.

I got my first about 2 years or so and the second 2 months ago. They look identical. Flawless.

Sal Glesser stated in a post that they eliminated that first hole. He didn't state the reason. It is my assumption they did it to take no chances on the G-10 run to strengthen it. Irreguardless , it's a very well built knife and it can handle most bushcraft tasks easily. It is a scandi , so if your going to beat the living hell out of it I'd probably put a micro -bev on the edge to prevent rolling ,etc just to be on the safe side. I've had no issues with mine so far right out of the box and the comments I've read about it were all positive.

In all my scouring all over the net about this knife , I've only seen I wooden handle one with a broken blade . (many issues with the wood handle though.)That's not indicative of widespread blade failure at all . I wouldn't of bought a second one had I any doubts whatsoever about this knife.

I'm not trolling, but I would rather have a g10 spydie bushcrafter over the BM version any day. I would not worry about it breaking for a second

In all my 40+ years of handling knives have never broken a blade when used as designed; slicing fine, prying never. There's nothing wrong with liking a non-Benchmade, and opines are purely that. I like Spyderco products even if the focus here isn't about them. There's yet to be a flawless, perfect, and un-breakable knife ever made, IMO, no matter the maker despite rumors to that effect. You are not trolling, just lending your voice on what you like to carry. That's the way it should be.

My 162 arived and I must say it is much better than I hoped it would be. Very nice knife for sure.

I got my 162 last week and absolutely love it so far
I used it Friday to prep food for dinner, slicing both meat and vegetables. It work great.
I used it yesterday to butcher a chicken with, again it worked great for that task as well.
Then yesterday afternoon I used it to help with firewood prep for our wood stove... Again great!
I'm not a big batoning guy, but I thought I'd try it just to put her thru the paces.
I busted down some kindling with it in no time. It handled great and was very efficient in the task.

And just to add...
It truly is a beautiful knife. The fit and finish is perfect!
I like the sheath as well, I wore it around all day yesterday and never even noticed that it was there.
I cut and split firewood and just did basic chores around all day, it was ver comfortable to wear.
If anyone's 'on the fence' about this knife... I say GO FOR IT ;)

How did it do with the veggies? I saw some spine pics and it's thicker than I was thinking!

I thought that it did fine. The spine is pretty thick, but I was able to cut up the veggies without a problem.
I had to thinly slice ginger, garlic and pork and it worked great for that as well.

There's no question about it... It's a big hunk of S30V

I was actually just batoning with it some more, making more kindling ;)

I forgot to mention earlier...
It also made some nice feather sticks!

Still enjoying playing with the Bushcrafter.

I have my second Bushcrafter inbound. I think I found my grail knife.

My initial doubts about the handle? Well , the forward swell in the grip and overall handle shape fit my hands to a tee and in all bushcraft chores.. The S30V so far hasn't misbehaved in any way and cuts like a dream , and the sheath... it seems a little tight , but I am not worried as I can make a replacement seeing as sheathmaking is my hobby.

Adam at Equip-to-Endure just did a nice review of it.

I couldn't wait for a second run , and snatched up probably the last one up here in Canada. I tried to get a site in the U.S. with the mark-down , but with shipping it would of been about the same. Anyways , I will have 2 of them and I love it !

Oh , and I added a D2 Bone collector FB to that order ( 15005-1). Another great , I think overlooked Benchmade product. It makes an awesome bushcrafter/hunting knife as well.
