I have noticed we have a large group of newer forums members hanging here. It's always fun for me to meet new people and have many more opportunities to learn.

That said, we had a thread a while back where we just did a brief intro of ourselves, what we enjoyed and what we did for a living. I am just restarting it so newer people can participate. Just feel free to put in whatever info you are comfortable with-this is an informal place and I am an informal guy.

I'm Steve, 43, divorced with 2 teenaged sons, I sell for T-Mobile, I enjoy outdoors stuff of all kinds, love to mess around in the kitchen creating food my boys will eat, enjoy reading, photography (even though I'm not that good), I am ALWAYS trying to learn new survival techniques, (one of these days Kev will be my instructor), I am a martial arts instructor with over 28 years of experience, and I'm sitting at my desk drinking a big mug of coffee typing this. Here's me:

Great idea.

Going to keep mine brief, though - not because I don't trust you guys, but because I like to think of W&SS as a bit of a sanctuary from my everyday life, and I wouldn't want the two to start to bleed together too much!

My name is Mike. I'm 27, and an academic criminologist / sociologist based in Toronto, though I spend a great deal of time in Ottawa. I research, write, and teach. My work deals with national security issues, and we'll leave it at that. :)

In my spare time, I dabble in knifemaking, hiking, snowshoeing, canoeing, fishing, and camping. Oh, and I like cigars, in case you can't tell from the picture.

I like long walks, but I don't like beaches.

All the best,

- Mike

I'm Ken - 38 years young, a prof in environmental sciences at a mid sized Cdn University. Like J, I can shoot lightening from my arse, but require a firesteel to facilitate the process. I'm married and have two 2 step children, one aged 20 and the other just turned 18. I enjoy camping, fishing and just being in the bush. I also have the pleasure of getting paid to do field research in different parts of the world and also in Canada.

i wouldnt qualify myself as a newer person, but ill play:
My name is Brendan Gausvik( ancestors were from norway, hence the weird last name), i live in NE Oklahoma currently, but up until about 18 months ago i had lived in Kentucky for most of my life, and in Ohio for a short while before that. i am lutheran, like most americans of scandanavian desent. I am currently in school, i like math classes mostly, but i am very adept at english, history (early american and scandanavian), science (in the form of physics, i really dislike biology, as it is too theoreticocally based IMO)also speak semi-fluent german. i work about 6 hours a week at a pizza place to support the knife/outdoor purchases. other than outdoors and knives, my only other interests are music, wood working, basic leather working, metal working (welding and such) and recntly i have gotten into the knifemaking thing. i plan on taking up archery very soon, thanks to some helpful guys around here. i am pretty good at school, A's mostly, but an occasional B in the useless classes. i dont have a picture of myself to post, but i am 6'4'' , with about the build of a birch tree. i have long hair for utilitarian purposes.

Well, then. My name is Christof, and I make knives. It turns out to be as socially debilitating as alcoholism.

I have a crew- we're sort of an informal version of a socially libertarian housing co-operative. Or something. MY wife is a nursing student, my babysitter is my sheathmaker, my son as close to the ideal 19th century wilderness tramp as I can make him! (he's 5. He has a multitool, EDC survival bag, SAK, necker, and a bb gun). My daughter is 2 and desperately wants to help me make knives. The other family includes a embedded programmer, butcher, goth teenager (she's not that bad, really) and autistic teenage girl. We, naturally, have a rottweiler. We all throw tomahawks in the backyard, too!

I've been a carpenter, fence builder, naval petty officer, network engineer, bicycle mechanic, and a few "other" things. Knifemaking is pretty close to heaven, aside from the lack of a proper vehicle proof shop :D

Aww hell...Greetings and salutations ! My names Matt, 41, hailing from the MO, AR OK, border. I'm a quiet person, married, 2 stepsons and one wonderful daughter, who just made me a granpa !!

Best friends are 4 crazy dogs, prefer them to most people, wife says I'm a hermit, and I guess I am. I posted a pic elsewhere already tonite, if you want to know what I look like look it up, :)

I like the quiet solitude of the woods when I get the chance, knives, swords, boomsticks, Guinness for breakfast on occasion.Just a regular guy, nothing exciting, lol

Ok lets see here, i am not as well known as most of the others here, more of a lurker who post occasionally. My name is Corey, I am 20. I am a manager of a fast food resturant. I go to school full time, working on gettin a degree in business managment. want to own my own business someday, with my dad hopefully. I have gotten into the survival and outdoors stuff alot lately and enjoying all that i can from here in the forums. i am also notorious for never capitalizing or checking my spelling lol

Sound like an AA meeting. Not that I would know..

I'm 30 and I guess I am married to Jake's wife like the rest of you married folks right;) I have a 4 year old lil girl who I adore. My family is the most important thing in my life. I enjoy all things outdoors, but fishing is my passion. I kind of like sharp things too;)

I aspire to learn as much as I can about the outdoors and outdoor living.

I served in the USAF for 4 years, since then I worked retail. I now run a small business in which I am part owner.

I came to the WSS to find a school to learn about the outdoors. Since then I made some great friends here and even though I haven't met some of them in person, I really do consider them friends.

Took me forever to find a pic in me in shirt with no sleaves like Steve and Jake:D

Hi,
I'm John, interested to read you all's intros, I've always wondered who posts on forums. I'm a union organizer, love the lightweight backpacking, desert camping, music, beer and parties. Wish I had more time (and space and tools) for mechanical ingenuity, get excited when I can fix things. Got deep into flashlights, figured out what I like, sold everything else, now going through the same process with knives. Much respect to the makers of good knives.

Hello, My name is Frank and I'm from South Texas..way south. I am an IT Project Manager thats my full time job. I go fishing with my wife and kids anytime we get a chance. Hi, I am Dale, I like to do most things involving the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. I just help my dad at work, however because of the economy, they aren't getting much work. I hunt in SE Ohio, and I fish Lake Erie and the Maumee river mostly. I will occasionaly take a few trips to go hiking, or spend a few days out in the woods to practice up on my skills and see what is useful and what isn't. I love to target practice as well. I am also a huge sports fanatic, mostly Amrican Football (hate soccer) and basketball. Although I also like Baseball and Hockey, although I don't get into hockey as much. Oh, I also like to collect most things sharp.

Hello everybody! My name is Sierra and I'm 22. Last year I got completely burnt out and fed up with corporate bullshit (I was functionally the manager of a pizza place and getting paid minimum wage ) so I walked out in the middle of a Saturday night rush and have been doing leather work ever since :D

Here's my pic:

I'll play too. Hello my name is Gil I'm 31. Like Crbuahs, I kind of lurk, but I try to contribute as much as possible. I am a State Correctional Officer for NJ . My family is my life line to the better part of the world. I have a beautiful wife that loves me and puts up with my crap LOL. I have 2 room romping Boys one is 3 and the other is 4 months. I love anything to do with the outdoors, guns, and working out. To me it's my stress reliever from my job and other chaos and pandemonium of daily life . I always try to better myself in every aspect in my life. Now I can't wait until my sons get a little older so I can take them out in the bush more often. Just like my father and uncle shared with me. Hopefully, I am going to get the chance to go to one of those classes in CT soon.

My name is Mike and I’m a little fellow who favors little knives.

Knives are a passion of mine; I use them, collect them and make a few from time to time.

I’ve always been a woodsbum and have been hiking, hunting, fishing, backbacking and camping my entire life.

These days I volunteer a lot of my free time to maintaining the local hiking trails.

I’m an engineer and my work involves corrosion control and building restoration.

When not on the job-site or in the office, I’m usually out in the woods with my dogs.

Hey guys. Great idea for a thread...I always wondered about some of you guys!

My name is Caleb, I'm a full-time student in Kentucky, studying to be an English teacher. I grew up on a "farm" made up of about three acres of vegetables and 73 acres of woods. I was homeschooled until High School, so I spent a LOT of time in the woods as a kid. I don't have much of a chance to get out nowadays, since I live on campus and work as well as going to school. I still like sharp things, though, and I have since I got my first pocket knife at 7 years old. I really enjoy Bladeforums in general, and this forum in particular.

Hi, I'm Jason. Haven't posted much in this forum, but have been visiting it quite a lot picking up a lot of good info. Plan to do some more posting in the near future.
Bit about myself? I'm 18, currently in my first year of engineering at the U of S. I have been an outdoors fanatic since I can remember. Camping, fishing, hunting, hiking and the like. I am going to be hiking the West Coast Trail in May, so I'm really looking forward to that. Like most others here, I have a thing for the sharps. Been into Spyderco for the last year and a half.

I also have both my Private and Glider Pilot licenses. I could fly a plane before I could drive a car :) Gliding seasons are September to November, and April to June (basically, when there's no snow). I go gliding every weekend during these seasons with a group of pilots from Saskatoon. I also fly single engine planes whenever I can afford it. It gets quite expensive though to rent a plane. This coming summer I am going to become a Gliding Instructor and help others attain their license.
