Is and Is not

Today its been established that any opening and closing of a knife with no cutting task is playing with it so I submit this by that metric:

If you get a new auto and want to show a friend you're whipping it out and playing with it in front of him.

A pocket knife has never been a weapon to me. I carry a gun for that purpose.
A knife is not a gun, but it is a weapon.

I disagree. It is only a weapon when you make it one.

Using a folding knife is an absolute last resort for me, and even then I'd most likely better off using my feet and hands, and my size than trying to find the time and space to grab and open a knife that's in my pocket. All of this is unlikely as I would hope to get to my gun first. It's all even more unlikely as I don't go much of anywhere anymore. It's been 8 months since I went into Chicago, and I doubt I'll find a reason to go back anytime soon.

Fact is, even the smallest traditional knife can become a weapon. Just like a rock, a bat and even a fist. Whether you carry one for the purpose of being a weapon is subjective. And some knives are designed to be weapons.

A wedge is a simple machine. A knife is a wedge. A knife is a simple machine. You both are describing complex machines.

Well, no wonder the Britannics lost the Revolutionary War - they got it all wrong again. 😁

But for the sake of argument, "simple machine" is not the same as "machine" - which was the topic of discussion above.

A manual tool such as a knife of the type we are discussing here has never been referred to by anyone I have encountered in the past five decades as a "machine" - which requires an external power source for movable parts.
