IMO, most Benchmades are well designed and worth the money.

Love my grips, and my old mini Osbourne. I've owned a few others but let them all go. I'm still hunting an anthem, maybe some day. The prices seem to be getting a bit out of control particularly with the upcoming new models, but what else is new, seems to be the theme across the board. I've read plenty of noise about the omega springs breaking, but still hasn't happened to me in almost 20 years of carrying. If I want a pry bar then I use a pry bar :)

Yes, US made, lifetime guarantee, good quality materials, from a manufacturer with US Military pedigree doesn't come cheap. All things considered I think they are reasonably priced

The recent price increase priced me out (average 8% across Benchmade’s line). I’m lucky to get a 3% raise every year (more like 2%). Many of my bills went up as much as 10% or more in 2023, and bills never go on sale. I haven’t had an omega spring break, or any other durability issues. I especially like their metal handled knives like the 940. They’re great hard working users. The problem is a 940 Osborne with aluminum scales is $215. That’s more than the price of a Fluke 107 ($103) multimeter and almost the price of an in-lb Snap-On torque wrench ($250). I can make money with those tools, I don’t need jewelry. I’m priced out.

Be careful comparing the price of anything snapon to anything else. I just replaced my 10mm snapon ratchet wrench. I won’t be losing it again.

I have a couple - a standard Griptilian with the clip point blade and the Mini-Griptilian with the sheepfoot blade, both in 154CM and the standard black handles. I bought them both around 10 years ago for just under $80 new each. It seems like they were a good value for that price. I use the full-sized Griptilian fairly often when cutting down cardboard boxes. It has held up fine. I don't play with knives as fidget toys so the omega springs don't get a lot of wear and tear.

I don't follow the knife market so I have no idea what they cost today. "Worth it" is a subjective thing so it is impossible for me to answer that question.

I agree that first looking on the secondary market is a good start if there is a specific model you like. The prices can vary widely depending on the model and the specific ones with upgraded steel and scales priced at over $300 is a bit much. The BMs I have I picked up at a good price and then proceeded to spend entirely too much money on aftermarket titanium scales, screws, back spacers :)

I was close to buying one in the past. I know people carrying theirs for years...

But, when I was thinking about getting one, some people also told me about omega springs breaking all the time - while others claimed they are using their knives for years and their springs never broke, or it took several years for springs to break.

Next thing is - the feel. Few Benchmades I held in my hands (Bugout, Griptilian and mini Griptilian) felt cheap. I know they aren't cheap, but they feel cheap.

Then the price for the materials - some brands offer Magnacut for the same price or even less than Benchmade asks for S30V. While S30V isn't bad steel - it's still not worth that kind of money.

As far as threads about their lock failing - that's only Adamas. I've seen videos of their other models getting batonned without issues, which is crazy for a folder. So I'd say they are tough - unless you're buying Adamas...

They are fidgety, designs are good, reliability seems to be hit and miss (looking at you omega springs), most models are really tough, and it seems to be really overpriced for the materials you're getting... the only premium about it seems to be the price, materials and the feel just aren't there.

I really wanted one but could never justify it for the prices they put for what they offer. Don't get me wrong - they are good, they just aren't that good to cost that much.

So question is - is it worth it to you?
If you are a Gun Owner... No... BM Cuts Guns in half for the .gov... I will NEVER buy from them...

Depends on the knife I think.
I have a large m4 Freek that is a total beast for hard use construction work.
On the other hand, my Arcane screws fell out with normal use as they are so short; only a couple threads, and the screws are on the ground.
I do like that BM is not afraid to thin out many of their knives to less than 3mm. which is a big bonus for my preferences.
Cost varies just like every other company. They have cheaper and not cheaper prices. (affordability is subjective)

have a picture in my head of the people that complain about Benchmade prices, instead of quietly not buy one.
I'm one of those that just quietly stopped buying them. I dont complain about it, and hey, if BM's sales are good, then obviously they aren't pricing too high. The invisible hand, and all that.

They just seem to no longer be worth it to me.

Bought the Adamas in Cruwear because of the looks and its reputation. It’s a great knife in own right and worth the two C-Notes I dropped on it. My wife loves it and now carries it daily and that’s what made it really worth it.

Haha exactly :) I do admit I prefer the way they did the coil spring on the Anthem, but have yet to have an Omega spring break on me.
I agree 100%. A coil spring still sort of works if it breaks, too.

Broke the O spring in my new small 20cv grip in 2-3 months. Left me cold, sold it and I aint commin back.

A true story and just my 2 cents 🤷‍♂️
