Is pay-pal entering the role of speech police ?

PayPal can go pound sand.

I've had a PayPal account for close to 20 years. I won't close it in case I need to transfer funds to a family member. But I will not use it for any further commercial transactions.

They may have backtracked on this latest nonsense, but in the past they have closed accounts and frozen funds of companies and organizations with whose social statements they have apparently disagreed. I say "apparently" because PayPal was unable to clarify to the organizations exactly what it was that got them cancelled.

This is just the latest. The way their contact is written (the user agreement you sign) essentially allows them to take money from your bank account for any reason. $2500 is a lot of money. A crippling amount for some. There is no way individuals will be able to mitigate this.

I can go further, but few care. They won’t care until money just disappears from their bank account for reasons they can’t fathom. By that time, it’s too late.

Money, the dollar, cbdc, and the like are efficient and convenient. These attributes win, and they’re why people will opt for them. I get it. We don’t need 3rd party platforms and their one sided contacts to use these tools. We have to put our heads together and find ways to trade on here. It won’t be easy and ALL trading carriers risks. It’s the nature of the game. Make friends and form networks, like real people networks. I have. Cheers.

I was wondering what Mr. Musk would have to say about this. Was pretty sure it would be right along the lines of what (kind of) said.

I don't really understand the issue. I've been buying and selling (mainly buying) knives using PP for years. If a seller is sensitive about saying knife - I normally will just say pocket knife - then I will say art object, which is honest.

But I have never EVER had anyone make a political or religious comment in the comments section. Why would you, when it is meant for a description of the object? Can someone explain why anyone would put a political comment in that box?

Buying/selling a weapon is a political statement.

But tools or art objects aren't political in most domains. Maybe some sellers wanted to make a point with their comments, IDK. Anyway, this is a subject completely removed from my own experience, so I'll wish all well and be on my way.

How was this to have worked in theory/practice. How does one spread “misinformation” on PayPal?

How can they claw $ from peoples’ bank accounts? The banks are going to participate? They garnish your wages if your balance is too low?

This has nothing to do with what you might say in the comment section when using PP to pay or buy , this has to do with what they find out or see in your social media post or a group or organization that uses pay-pal but pay-pal disagrees with there message . I perfect example , a group in the UK , gay's against grooming , don't know if it was because of the word gay's or that the group is against children going thur transgender surgeries , but pp banned them from their platform .

...and that right there is why they can't access my bank account only a credit card. If anything goes sideways I will let PayPal and MasterCard duke it out.

That's the issue, right there. PayPal has based their judgments and have closed accounts based on actions and statements of the user on other platforms.

There was one mom and pop company that made and sold American Flags. They accepted PayPal payments. PayPal froze their funds, and not for taking orders.

How can some knife dealers still freely accept Paypal? There's one in Finland that does and I paid them with PayPal recently for a knife I couldn't find elsewhere.

Is there an alternative to PayPal when using eBay?
You can use a credit card. If you look at listings, there is usually a list of payment options.

I have no problem with a private company setting rules about what their service can be used for, i.e. selling nazi memorabilia, or legally restricted items. But garnishing fines for "financial damages" is BS.

This is gonna be a bit of an inconvenience, but I’m in the process of closing my PP account. There’s still a pending transaction, or I’d have closed it already. I don’t care what they did to correct/walk back/disavow this practice, it got out there, and something that big doesn’t happen by accident. I haven’t seen anything about heads rolling yet, so I’m seriously questioning how much of an accident this was.

Yep, when you step in a pile of dog doo or chicken poo, even after scraping it off the smell still lingers. I will be removing my account and look for a new source for payment transactions.
