Is Snody Crazy

As I mentioned, I have no problems with the guy's knives. I have handled enough to know that they are cleanly made. I am sure that Mr. Snody is better at certain aspects of knifemaking than I am. I am sure that I posess skills that Mr. Snody does not.

I was stating that when you sell a controversial image, just like Marilyn Manson, Eminem or Prince, you run the risk of people reacting negatively. Is Mike Snody a d-bag? I don't know. I haven't met the man. It sure looks like he is in those videos.

If you are going to be polarizing, don't be shocked when people react negatively.

I like Snody's designs - and my cheapo collection probably cost less than an inexpensive 'original'!

Great way to 'test the waters', in the Snody-world. Like has been said, he has neat/functional designs.

Merry Christmas!

Agreed.

Most people with that level of artistic talent march through life on their own path....IMHO, there`s nothing wrong with that...."Variety is the spice of life" (that`s what the judge is gonna tell my wife :-)

Typically knifemakers are middle aged, bearded and slightly paunchy. Mr. $nody's "street" schtick is in stark contrast. While that certainly will appeal to the 18-25 "urban" crowd, it is an embarrasment to just about everybody else.

How is it an embarrassment just because someone likes a certain type of music and jewelry? Someone wearing gold teeth is no different from people wearing rings and bracelets.

Are you sure you're not just annoyed at the comments Snody makes in the videos addressing other knifemakers, saying to call him and sell him their equipment when they go out of business? I think he's just joking around, don't take that so personally Rossi.

I am intrigued.

I never knew that Mike $nody had this "image" untill this thread. I appreciate that Mr. $nody is a sucessfull and prolific knifemaker. His knives seem to be well made and sturdy. The designs are not offensive but certainly not a big breakthrough in knife aethstetic.

But the image.....hmmm.....

You can look at this a few ways. The outrageous "gangsta" thing certainly sets him apart from other knifemakers. Typically knifemakers are middle aged, bearded and slightly paunchy. Mr. $nody's "street" schtick is in stark contrast. While that certainly will appeal to the 18-25 "urban" crowd, it is an embarrasment to just about everybody else. I can say with certanty that if I saw the you tube videos while in the process of deciding on a custom knife purchace, I would think;

Wow, what an incredible d-bag. I wonder what kind of boob would think that was cool. I am absoloutely going to tell several of my friends how much this guy seems like a wannabe contestant on a VH1 reality show.

Just sayn'.

Wow...:yawn: Way to insult another maker and those folks, including myself, who are interested in buying his high quality knives. :thumbdn:

2 more things...

1.) Taken directly from your sigline quote: "Progress comes from doing things differently in an unpredictable way." -Stanton T. Freidman
I guess it's one thing to have an inspiring quote as a sig, but another thing entirely to believe in that quote, yes?

2.) If you're going to post negative comments, don't be shocked when others react negatively to those posts. :)

Great point , I didn't even notice that....seems that according to his sig line , he himself is a poser ;)

I have a HUGE problem with Snody - he has yet to offer a bladeforums exclusive "production" styled run!!!

His designs look amazing to me, and is marketing approach is unique and enjoyable. It definitely captures my attention.

I'm a 49 country boy, live WAY out in the country in a very rural valley(always have), and love Snody knives. Should I be worried...is something wrong with me:confused:

I don't think so:p

No desrepect, but what is your strong point(sorry,I've never heard of you), and what skills are you sure you pocess that Mike does not?

On the second part I understand what your saying, and agree. But for as many as may react negatively I feel more will be brought to his knives than turned away.

We all have our opionions, I appreciate yours, and no disrepect was intended. Thats what makes the world go round...differant stokes for differant folks.

WOW... you have been here on this forum for a whole 5 months, You have contributed a whopping 19 posts. And, already you have managed to step on your own Dick by talking smack about a fellow knifemaker... thats a crying shame if you ask me.

I had never heard of you or your knives before reading your weak contribution to this thread.

Talk about stuck up man... get over yourself already!!

I wonder how many of your knives Mike Snody has handled over the years in order to form an opinion of you and your work, one way or the other.

One thing I have noticed is that I have never heard Mike Snody Talking Smack about another Knifemaker! Maybe you could learn a thing or two from his Ethic!

$nody = Pure Money... Maybe someday you will be able to say the same thing... or not. Only time will tell. Good Luck with that!

Real!

This thread is hilarious. Anyone who's put off by Snody's persona missed the point.

My first look at Snody's work came in the form of the youtube videos themselves. My first reaction was 'wow, that guy's got a very well put-together shop and keeps it really clean'. He's obviously got his $hit together from a business standpoint, and seems to make a quality product. In the end, I spent more time looking at his channel than anyone else's because I was intrigued with his videos....either trying to figure them out or just laughing my head off.

Perhaps not a break thru , but his attention to detail and the way his knives feel in the hand would most certainly change your mind there. They may be the design or styles you choose to make.

d-bag ? :jerkit:

Sounds more like sour grapes to me , especially coming from a fellow knifemaker.

What is amazing , you can say what you want about Mike , he is who he is , an unlike many , how you see him and what you say about him has little to do with his bottom line....making knives & making money.

John, I could not have said it better!!!

If Mike were like "other' Makers he would not be Mike Snody. But in the final analysis who cares how he acts on You tube as long as the fit and finish on his knives keeps him in the very very top 1% of all knife makers in the world. Hold one of his knives and you will be so amazed at the quality; you'll start talking like Eminem, rapping like 50 cent and writing checks like a Meth crazed Accountant!!

Keep them Snodys coming Damnit!!!!

I don't have to wanna be like Mike, But I wanna a knife from Mike!!!

And I wanna talk like Mike..................................to goats

and, and, and one day I will get a Folder from the man but he sells out too damn fast

As a fellow lover of money and gettin it, and a marketer of my own products, I will say "there is no such thing as bad publicity, and nothing is finer than free publicity." And thats exactly what this thread is, free publicity. I'd heard of Snody knives but hadn't taken the time to check them out and now that I have I would definately buy one if I was in the market. So smoke up Mike. Maybe someday I'll smoke one with ya.

Aight mah Blade FOrums homies. Imma put in my 2 bills. Here da deal. $nody= Money. Ain't no gettin' around dat, aight. And what does da Pimp Master General produce in his shop? Money. $nody knives= money, money= handmade knives by Mike $snody. Ya dig

In white man's terms. Mike is a great guy. Him and his crew work VERY, VERY hard. There's no bull there. Also, that's what he's done. His knives are "money", and they are very much money. Money meaning they're cool, they're tight, they're well built, they serve the purpose they were meant for very well, and that they WILL retain their paper value very nice. I've owned one of Mike's knives and it was one hell of a knife. PLUS, i'd like to see another maker, that well known and popular, making fixed blades of that caliber and selling them for those prices. His bail out and Menace are the BEST knives for that price range for ANY knife.

And to Rossi. A D-bag? Really? He's a cool, honest working person, who makes excellent knives, and is hilarious. Sure, he may be ghetto, but who cares. He's a awesome maker and a nice guy. AND honestly, with your friggin' signature being what it is, I REALLY, REALLY think that it'd be best to not be making comments like that.

I am not going to get into an debate about who is a better knifemaker. You can't quantify "better". Snody knives are attractive, sharp and have comfy handles. I am sure his HT is by the book. There are so many variables in the construction and design of a knife that at a certain level, every maker posesses skills that are unique to the manufacture of their knives.

That said, I don't care for Mike's public persona. I don't like hype. This is the internet. I an sharing my opinion. Don't be butthurt when there is backlash to a controversial marketing technique. By evidence of this thread, I am not the only one who feels this way.

This is a great thread, BTW.

I can quantify who is the better maker, Mike's the better knifemaker.....even on a bad day. He never released a knife that looked like this!!???
