Is spyderco behind now?

CPM D2 Military? If you want one, be quick to get one before they're all gone. Might have to check a few of "the usual" sites.

No rush, like the bg42 sprint run, This one will also be avaialble for a long long looooooooong time

Beauty is in the Eye of the beholder. I am not going to try and convince you...this is just my statement.

I think the Caly in Carbon Fiber and ZDP is a beautiful knife, I bought one the other day in fact. The lines are smooth and nice, and the steel is cutting edge(no pun intended) and right now they are one of the few production companys other than kershaw offering it up at a very affordable price(endura, delica, caly). Have some of there models been around a while? Sure they have but they keep getting better and better. I can hold my old Endura and put it next to the new Endura and see a world of change. That does not make them ahead of Kershaw or Benchmade. However I find them to be right on par. Right now Spyderco offers H1, no one else does....does that make those companies behind? Not to me....but by your logic it does.

Spyderco fans think only spyderco is functional? Get over yourself, I am a fan of many companies as are others so that was a dumb statement.

Like the Benchmade 710 will be available for a long looong looooooooong time. Like ther kershaw DWO, like the CRKT M-16.....your argument fails.

Paddling_Man,

Why'd you have to mention the Tasman PE and the Lahar? Seems like you're salesmungering for NGK, Spyderco, and KAI. It's as though you're being the Oscar Goldman to thedawg's Phelix mUnger.

Aaahhh... it's working, eh? :D

Sal, you say:

Let me bring it to you slowly: BM and Kershaw, are making beautiful knives, that are functional, with great ergos, and style.

I like the blind faith but spyderco fans take it to a new level.

I hope spyderco is still aroud in a couple of years for another (delica) variant, with the flavour of the month g10 colour.

All your comments are the same as the ones you discredit-they are still opinions. You think BM and Kershaw make highly functional, beautiful knives with great ergos. I've only owned two Kershaws, a Chive and the ZDP Mini Cyclone, and they're both gone because I found the Chive rather unattracitve and the Mini Cyclone uncomfortable to my hand. I didn't like where my finger came to rest-either behind the flipper where it felt cramped or in front of the flipper where only bad things would be the result. Still, just my experience, but I never came out and said Kershaws lacked in anything, as it's still my opinion and my experience. I find the handles on all the BMs I've owned or had in my hands looked too thick for my tastes. Again, just an opinion. I can't stand the looks of most BMs, but don't knock them.

I don't understand why you seek to label your opinions as facts, but then turn around and call anyone defending Spyderco nothing more than someone with blind faith.

Finally, you take a shot at the fact that the Delica has been updated , eventhough that's what you state they haven't been doing:confused::confused::confused:. BM has updated their Griptillian. Haven't you seen it? It's the one they put a Round Hole on...

I take my comment back, this guy IS trolling. I was defending your right to share your opinion dawg, but now I think you should be banned. Just my opinion.

The fact is:
spyderco keeps milking (the same cow)
it relies on its old faithfull fans. Its seems that the only money spyderco is making is from them by introducing different variants and sprint runs.

The reason is the pond is drying , there is bigger fish there than spyderco.

You could see it like this: spyderco is that old corner shop where the owner himself is the sales man. This has worked in the past Now, on the same street, there is BM, Kershaw, and cold steel. Three huge stores.

How long will the corner shop survive relying only on a couple of pensioners that shop there every day in the early morning.

I rally wish spyderco good luck. Things going the way they are, its going to be tough.

I may resurrect this thread in a couple of years to remind you.

thanks.

Dawg

Wow you take yourself seriously? hahaha....(pat on the head)

I dont think spyderco is going anywhere. I hope BM doesnt go under relying on the same old axis locks and liner locks or those pesky "overplayed" thumb studs. I mean....how many companies use thumb studs now, how outdated is that:eek: Man I hope BM doesnt go under putting out knives only in S30V or 154-cm, OH and the occasional D-2. I mean with such little steel variety it leaves me:yawn:

C'mon dude, get over yourself.

CS puts out three steel types. And many of there same old designs for there knives. I mean....Trailmaster c'mon how long has that been out;)

And kershaw...I mean arent we tired of flippers? Or AO? Its all been done we want something NEW! I hope they try something new besides those billion variety's of leeks....how tired is that design.

Oh and this was all sarcasm, for those of you with your sarcasm meters set to off.:p

Considering the "facts" and "logic" presented, it does not look like Spyderco has anything to worry about regarding being behind.

thedawg, I only recently got into modern locking folders. My first purchase was a CRKT, then Spyderco, then eventually I tried out BM, Kershaw, CS, Boker and more. The knives I carry every day are Spydercos. Considering I've known about these companies for less than two years, I could hardly be considered an old customer who's just being faithful to his favorite company. I have a lot of respect for the companies I listed, they produce fine knives and some of them do find their way into my pocket (Boker Wharcom, Kershaw Leek etc), but Spydercos have proven themselves to me through daily use. I also have a great deal of respect and admiration for the "old corner shop where the owner himself is the sales man" feel of the company. I know a few stores like that around here, and talking to someone who's ran the business for decades gives you such a valuable sourch of information compared to a teenager who just got hired a few months ago.

I started buying quality knives last year. Since then I've bought knives from:
Cold Steel
Kershaw
Benchmade
Leatherman
Victorinox
Camillus
Spyderco
Busse

Most of my knives are Spydercos. My favorite users are Spydercos. I look forward to buying mainly Spydercos in the near future. I'm far from an "old faithful fan". I'm always astounded at the level of idiocy some people can reach. Strong opinions based on little fact is just sad.

Without having access to Spyderco's financial records you're talking out of your ass by saying they're "behind" or that "the pond is drying". You don't have the faintest idea what their sales numbers are and neither do the rest of us (except Sal). I'd guess that by the fact they are continuing to put out new designs and honing old designs further while maintaining and building their fan base I'd say they aren't behind at all.

You really don't have a clue, do you?

I doubt it, because in a couple of years Spyderco will still be one of the leaders in the industry and all you will be doing is proving how wrong you were.

To perform an "real" analysis of a company, one needs more than just the company's financial records and sales figures.

Based on thedawg's "facts" and numerous, biased posts in this thread. . . .it's obvious he's extremely familiar with the halls in la-la land !

Man I can only imagine how many awesome models are going to be out by then. We'll probably have the next generation lock that almost equals a fixed blade, and Sal will have worked out how to manufacture knives with CPM S125V.
I need a time machine.
