Is the 9 still the King?

Mine will get here on Thursday so you'll have to wait until then. But for the 20 to dethrone the BK9 it will have to become a regular production item. If not everyone can buy it than it's not really a better alternative to the BK9. There have always been knives that could chop better than the 9, but I haven't found any that were about the same size, weight, and price.

I respectfully disagree. Just because something is not available to everyone does not make it less effective, and effectiveness will be what decides which Becker knife is king in my book and I'm sure many others' as well. After holding it, I predict that the BK20 will outdo the BK9, but we will see once it is thoroughly tested. I don't think everyone will accept the 20 is better, but i think it will be. We will see though! I could be wrong! It will be fun to find out.

I just mean that a one knife being better than another doesn't do most folks any good if it's not available to them. I should have said it's not a viable alternative.

Since the BK20 is a one time limited run if it were to become king, then it would be king to the few or elite that bought it now maybe. The BK9/39 is king now and maybe will continue to be since it will be available to the masses down the road as well. For me I like the idea that one can always buy a BK9/39 and have a excellent large knife especially if it is widely available and at an affordable price.

The 20 is a much, much better blade than the 9.

The 9 is a somewhat better prybar than the 20.

Whoa!

Can you expound? While I've never met you, based on my reading, you seem to have a similar viewpoint on blades to my own, and I value your opinion.

So what makes you like the bk20 that much more than the 9?

And I guess "Emperor" or "supreme overlord" could work :p.

Both yours and bighoss's arguments are good.. Since I have the knife, Its easy to say it could be the king, and because of that I was looking at it solely in terms of performance and not in terms of availability.

That is why I said "maybe", you never know. The saying "you can't not have a 9" means everyone should have one and that is made possible by availability.
My BK20 arrives tomorrow and it is a grand knife but if it is irreplaceable, I will be more hesitant to carry it 4-wheeling and hiking for fear of damaging it, losing it or something. So the BK20 will compete but there is a good chance the BK9 will be my go to knife.

The BK20 is a lofty knife and I can see why the BK9 might be nervous.:)

IF you break a 20   and no more 20. If you break a 9, the king is dead... Long live the new king! Get another one!

Jack of all trades, master of none is a better description for the 9 I say. It is more like the King's grounds keeper:D. I think the BK20 will likely do everything the BK9 will do but, do it all better. Time will tell.

We need some chopping, batoning, and general use reports on this thing:D And, maybe some tests verses the 9 and 21.

I've used the 20, and examined it closely in comparison to the 9. The 20 has better balance, and a more acute blade geometry. It feels a lot more lively in your hands. Ethan, and I shot a video as well. It will be up soon. Stay tuned.

Regarding BK20: How about 'Ard Rí' = 'High King' as Gaeilge. Similar concept to Emperor above, but referred to the ruler of the whole island - the island here being Beckers.

I have a nomination for the BK20... NWO.

"Cause the King doesn't have to die for there to be a New World Order. Whatever the future of this design is with Ka-Bar, it would appear to be the new Sheriff in town when compared to the competition.

I shoulda bought 2 and traded one for a BK1 LOL.....currently, I prefer the 20 to the 9....but the 21 to the 20.....its all so subjective based on usage, area, and intended use....
