Is the spyderco Military worth the price tag?

By comparison, a waved Endura or Delica, or a tip-up AO flipper is about 10 times faster for me.

Tip up would make it heavier.
I didn't buy the knife as tactical, but rather as an EDC that can be forgotten about, clipped in my jean pocket. I actually like the shape of the blade which is unorthodox, and sheeple don't consider it tactical, but the size of it does get me weird looks when I use it.

Tip up would make it heavier? How would adding three holes to a knife make it heavier?

Forgive my lack of technical terms here. Military has no metal liners under its scales, so the clip is mounted in the only place there is metal in the knife. If you wanted a tip up carry you'd have to extend that metal plate further down the knife. Granted it wouldn't be much difference, but I'm guessing the design had in mind maxim weight reduction, and smallest thickness possible. These are the trade offs.

Is the Military worth it? For me, I would say around a 110% worth it. I don't have as many Millies as Yablanowitz, but I am working on it. My Millies get an extraordinary amount of pocket time and if I could only pick one folder, it would be a Military.

Oh yes, I think you will find that Yablanowitz got that Millie from Sal as a gesture of appreciation from one gentleman to another.

it is too big for my personal tastes, in both handle and blade, one inbetween the para and the military would be great, 3.5 blade or so, call it the National Guard...

Sounds like a Stretch to me. ;)

The grip is too thick on the Military, I guess because it has no metal liner and with no liner, I really don't trust this knife. I replaced it with the Spydie Police. A little heavier but a much more solid feel, at least to me. I also much prefer the blade shape of the Police over the Military.

It's a matter of personal taste, but I feel it's very well built, very strong for its weight and more or less perfect for a go-to outdoor folder. As an EDC I find that I prefer smaller knives, but I still pick up my Mili anyway:D

Worth the price? Definitely. Paid 125 shipped for mine, and I got at least that much use out of it.

I intend to get one when the planets align correctly and I can swing a trade or decent used price. I love the flat grind and blade shape. I don't dig being limited to tip down only carry. Is the pivot bolt anchored in a steel sleeve inside of the g-10?

Military is one of my fave Spyderco's. It's long and pointy, an excellent slicer, nicely balanced, well made and fits the hand like not many knives can even come close to doing.

But, this one I received in a trade last week is my very favorite. The Ti takes it to an entirely new level. Makes the good ol Mil a much solider beast and it's lock is amazing. Has a lip that is exactly fitted over the top of the tang base, makes the knife lock-up so solid and tight, gotta love it!

It's THE folder in my opinion, and honestly is my favorite folder among all that I have. And mine (if I'm not mistaken) is from the second batch, with CPM 440V steel, that from what I understood isn't as good as the modern ones with S30V. It's maybe the only blade I have that I'm tempted to buy a second one to be a cabinet queen.

If yours is a CPM440V, that is the same steel as S60V. Depending on your personal taste for blade steels, I'd take S60V/440V over S30V any day!

Had one and sold it. Now I'm only interested in two of the Military models. The Ti Military will stay in my collection as soon as I get the damn thing. Also, the Ti/G-10/M-4 version will also stay in the collection once they come out around May.

I'll carry the Ti version once I can get it modded for tip up carry. The Ti/G-10/M4 model will probably get tucked away.

I was never a big fan of how long the knife is overall, but I do love the blade on the Military. It makes for one helluva slicer and poker.

This question is going to generate a lot of fan fare and a bit of negative reviews (and already has).

Honestly, YOU are the only one who can say if it is worth it.

I look at it this way. Street price is between 120 and 150 depending on what options you get (assuming G-10 version)...some have paid less, some more. For that you get a very light handle that flexes only slightly under hard stress, a blade made from the same steel that knives selling for 3x the price go for, a deployment hole (something that some prefer over studs and flippers), a grind and edge that many would agree is "scary sharp" and it will stay that way even after a fair bit of use, a lifetime of "free" sharpening (if you get the knife to and from Spyderco), and a fit and finish that most would agree is quite good.

So is it worth it? I think if you compare it to similar offerings by other manufacturers, it stacks up VERY well. Is any knife worth over 100 bucks? That is up to you.

Regarding the slow statement...I think that is perhaps subjective. I can deploy my "broken in" military faster than the tip up Citadel (automatic). Out of the pocket and ready to go in less than a second or two always seemed "good enough" to me? Then again, I am not fighting off zombies...although they always seemed pretty slow moving in the movies...LOL

Go find one to handle. Perhaps you can find a good friend to loan you one for a few hours to carry...I have some great friends...who always seem to be taking my money in exchange for knives I borrowed but can not seem to return.

I believe it is worth it. It's a great knife, f&f was fantastic, great materials, the blade was the sharpest I've recieved from spyderco aside from my s35vn mule team.

For me personally, I don't care for tip down and it was a bit large for me to carry often. It would have sat in my glove box or somewhere not being used until I wet camping.

I had one and it wasn't for me. Most people like them but some don't. I would try to handle one in person before you buy it.

And I realize this is a Spyderco thread, but how is an AXIS lock knife sloppy?
