Is the spyderco Military worth the price tag?

I think the Mili is worth the asking price.
But for me it's just too darn big in overall size.

I think it is a great knife, but just too big for my tastes. 4 inch is about my limit =)

It is a well made knife. I've tried several times, but I just can't warm up to the hole in the blade. It ruins the lines of the knife for me. That, and no tip up and no full liners. I've still got one lying around here somewhere.

I guess that's why there is more than one flavor of ice cream.

I find the Military is quite a light, thin handled knife for it's size. However I find it very irritating that it only allows tip down carry. I like lanyards, and of course tip down puts the lanyard down your waistband or at the bottom of your pocket.
With all the handle and steel variations Spyderco has used with this knife I can't understand why they make no provision for tip up carry.
Anyway, because they don't ,I don't carry my Military much so at least it stays pristine.

I might buy one if they had tip up, too. With Tip Down you can't use the Ghetto Zip Tie wave that I like a lot...Fastest deployment ever, faster than an auto.

It depends on what you're paying. MSRP is too high but if you do some shopping like I did well - it's a great knife and a good price! :)

PS: I have to add that for the same $$ I prefer my Police 3 G-10 plain edge. More blade offers more cutting :D

WOW... Epic military collection! How did you get the one from Sal?

Beats me. All I did was send him a couple of knives he needed for the Sage project. The funny part was, it arrived at my work address (I'm never home when UPS is delivering, so I have things sent to work) the day I took off to drive up to the annual Factory Sale. :D

The millie is one heck of a knife for the price. Very light and easy to carry for a large folder. I don't carry mine everyday, but like to carry it on my trail to keep the vines cut back. Its so light and whippy when you choke back on the handle that it goes through vines/briars like butter.

BTW- I LOVE the hole! No other non auto folder can be opened as easy when wearing thick gloves. Beats any thumbstub IMO.

On a scale of 1-100, I'd put the Military at a 99.
The Ti version is the reason I don't have an Umnumzaan.

I carry the paramilitary in d2, and I would rate it in the high 90s. I am shopping for my millie right now.

I have 5 Militarys with the M4/Ti/G10 on order! Plan on at least 7-9 before I am done getting them.

That's how I feel too, they would have to completely change the blade profile and get rid of or change the hole. But then I feel the same way about their whole line, they would have to make some major changes to get me to buy any of them.

Different strokes I guess. :)

I do like the Sharpmaker though and they have some nice stones. :D

great knife for the price. Im a huge Spyderco fan, t first I stayed away from the millie, mainly cause I got an old used one with a crap load of play (spyderco made it right). Well 2 years ago my ole lady gifted me a new one, well Ive been converted and will NEVER go without owning atleast one.

I have both the PE and SE, if you like a HUGE monstrous cutting edge, get the SE version, it puts the PE to shame imo.

Another tip up Military carry idea. I have successfully mounted many clips on plastic handles by putting stainless steel helicoils in them. The sizes involved are #2-56 and the metric size 2.5X.45. You would probably end up with a staight clip on a curved handle because the Mili clip curves the wrong way (unless you are left handed). The holes in most clips are too small for the metric size. To avoid the hassle of enlarging holes in hardened steel, go with the #2-56 helicoil kit.

Only when it deploys.
Waves are not 100% reliable, no matter who is using them.
Waves are fun to play with, but I prefer manual deployment, for which the Military is plenty fast.
