Is There an Ultimate Slipjoint Storage Solution

The only slip-joint I use lives quite comfortably in a Cordura pouch at 8 o'clock on my belt...

The EDC rotation ones are in a wooden cigar box. The "collection" is in a coffee can filled with 30 weight motor oil buried out back under a mesquite tree.:D

I've got several Gertsner Chests....this Walnut chest and base I just refinished

If you look around you can find these used fairly reasonable

Besides having knives in every room of the house on tables or shelves, in drawers or other hidden away places, I keep most of mine in 12 x 18 inch wooden display cases and leather totes. Here they are in our china cabinet. Out of sight, but easily accessed.

Snapped a couple of quick phone pics of my users which stay on my dresser top.

I have other not so regular users boxed up.

All of my modern knives are in a large Seahorse (pelican like) case and I am planning to get a smaller Seahorse to store my slipjoints only in a vertical configuration.

Ordered my Seahorse case today for my growing slipjoint collection. Should hold around 40 to 42 traditionals.

Charlie (CNoyes) ,do you think that would have been enough room?

Might have gotten it in today's economy.

Are you guys single? There is no way my wife would let me keep my knives out like that. She'd say that they ruin the decor of her house, lol...- Christian
LOL! That pic is from my man-cave. Once LOML and I became empty-nesters I took over one of the spare bedrooms and turned it into my private domain. She has no jurisdiction there.

I find PKJ's shadow box method appealing and space saving. Hang on wall, out of the way, easy to see and decide which ones go in the pocket for the day.

Lyle asked, "Charlie (CNoyes) ,do you think that would have been enough room?"

At the time, yes.

I really liked the upper sections too. Great place for knife boxes, etc.

Tony,
Have you had any issues with the foam holding moisture and rust? I always hear a big hubbub about this on some forums and that this foam shouldn't be used for any mid to long term storage, so I'm curious what your experience is with that. I have a 1300 Pelican that I'm thinking about getting some new foam for just for this purpose.

Not sure about holding moisture. I live in MO and don't seem to have any rust issues. I rotate the knives fairly regularly so a specific one doesn't sit longer than others.

I always tell my wife she has the rest of the house, all I want is my Den/Cave. I have knives sitting here and there.

There have been a few firearms with ruined finishes due to open cell foam. It can hold moisture if one isn't careful.

I noticed that. Both lines give me pause. The USA line is very pricey, but the quality seems to be lacking with the Internationals. I'm thinking of getting a do-it-yourself kit from the USA line. Solid oak instead of plywood and veneers. I'd have to build it myself, but at least I can make sure the workmanship will be good. And it'll cost roughly the same as an International.

I bit the bullet and bought a small US made Gerstner (38 Special it's called) at Blade several years ago. I saved $200 by buying it there. They also have an annual sale with nice discounts. They will last generations with reasonable care.
