Is Your Most Expensive Knife Your Favorite Knife?

Nope, I've sold most of my customs. Probably the two most expensive folders I have at this point are both large regular Sebenza's, both in BG42, one decorated and one a wood inlay. My favorite folders as users are all Spyderco Militaries in all three sizes. I still love old school customs, McBurnette, Valchovic, Easler etc as a user the Military family is hard to beat.

Yes and no. My favorites range from a $425 Umnumzaan to a $750 Andre Thorburn L51 to a $1,100 Rockstead Higo. I also carry a $30 SAK everyday too:D

This post sounds like it needs pictures to go with it! Sounds like you have some nice ones. I have similar plans for my next folder purchase. Skip the 100-300 knife purchases and save up for something (hopefully) awesome. Shiro or Rockstead.

Crappy cell phone pic...My Reate Horizon A is on loan right now...View attachment 619022 For the sake of space I didn't pull out any Spydies or Benchmades.

Though I have more expensive knives that I enjoy owning, my favorites are more value oriented.

In the fixed blades, my favorites are the Beckers. With folders, I so favor the Buck 110, especially my Buck Custom Shop model which has nickel bolsters, fancy-schmansy wood and BG-42 blade steel along with Bos heat treat. I also like my RAT-1s and have a few indifferent colors; what's not to like? The Spyderco Wave Endura 4 is fast becoming a favored EDC notwithstanding my long standing preference for Emersons. My Sebenza 25, which I truly enjoy owning, spends more time int he drawer than in my pocket. I can beat the daylights out of a RAT-1 or CS Voyager with almost reckless abandon; for they excel in the "no worries" category.

Yes I use my most expensive knife. I got a phil wilson south fork. I use it in the kitchen and will use it for hunting (I just got it after elk season and didn't get a deer in October to test it).

You always have the best pictures. I would swear you get them done professionally.

Generally yes, but not always exactly. For example, knives in the $200-$250 range are certainly more favored than those in the $50-$100 range. But, it is possible that a $200 knife is liked more than a $230 knife. Of course as always, I am talking about my case.

Edit: BTW, being favored (which is what the OP is asking) has little to do with being used the most, IMO.

This is half of my rotation, both are the most expensive in their respective category that I own and yes, they're my favorites.

However, I've owned more expensive traditionals and much more expensive moderns and they were not my favorites, which is why they're gone. :D

Just got a mini Bodega and its the most I've spent on a knife. Don't know if its my favorite yet as I like my Sukhoi 2.0, XM18 and ZT0562CF. I use a Grip and PM2 the most.

So true, and let me say, your tag line on the bottom really hits home and it brought real smiles ,thank you!

Much appreciated man!

It's something I've had to learn through life, and I never want to forget it.

Is Your Most Expensive Knife Your Favorite Knife?
In a word - no.
My most expensive folder is a custom; and I have never used or carried it. Dropping down a few notches to the Sebenza, XM18, SNG level - I like, carry, and use them...but they aren't my favorites.
For fixed blades - my most expensive ones are customs with large blades....I love them for what they are, and some of them have a very high sentimental value; but my "favorites" are the ones I can carry/use most frequently. So, again, no.

In my case it's my $5 and change knife. I love this knife and very useful. :)

My most expensive is my TiLT. My favorite is my 0454. I like the TiLT a lot, but for my EDC uses, the 0454 is a better fit for me.

I can't post pics, but my favorite isn't quite my most expensive. My most expensive is an Umnumzaan, but my one-handed EDC of choice costs only $15 below that; my large Insingo. I'm not afraid to carry and use it. After all, I drive my car around everywhere, and it cost me WAY more than my knife. I won't be on this earth forever, so I intend to enjoy my stuff while I'm here, and not worry about it. But I'm also reasonable about it; i.e., I won't risk carrying it to knife-unfriendly places.

But every day, I also get tons of use out of my SAKs. Certainly more versatile than any pure knife.

My favorite EDC is my Grayman Dua but my most expensive knife is an SNG Z-wear which also gets used. Just something about the Dua gets me every time.

(...) Is your most expensive knife is your favorite knife? Why or why not? (...)

My favourite knife for EDC is an alox Victorinox Pioneer. I have several knives that are far more expensive, but none suit my pocket knife needs better.

My favourite overall knife changes with my mood. I have a long-standing love affair with some knives, some knives I favour just because they are new and novel, others I prefer for specific occasions or tasks. My favourite knives may range in price and style, but one thing is constant: I have 'em because I like 'em, and because I like 'em, I use 'em.

:)
