At one point in my collecting/hobby/addiction, I would have answered yes to your query. In keeping with some other responses, I too have mood swings. Some years, I focused in on one brand. Other seasons, I just went hog wild for full tang cutlery. My most expensive knives tend to be fixed blades. My high end folders usually stay in the drawer. For normal EDC, I carry a Buck 110 or an Opinel. The search for more cutlery has various intricate and convoluted phases! I certainly have had great enjoyment with knives that were purchased below the $100 price point. Others that cost a pretty penny tend to be investment pieces. Some knives are just bought because it was fun to buy them.
My Basic 9 has been with me for years now, and I have no complaints. I suppose I could sell all the rest and just keep the 9, but as we all know, there is no proper exit strategy for this highly addictive and expensive hobby. Notable mention goes out to the venerable RW from Swamprat.
