It’s 2021 and Hinderer is still discriminating

I don't think we should punish the defective innocent left-handed individuals by denying them access to useful tools. Maybe manufacturers could charge a small, reasonable markup for the added tooling and manufacturing cost related to making wrong-handed left-handed variants of their products? I'm thinking something like this:

Rub the side of your face. You just got e-bitch slapped for that comment.

If I had to guess, it would be the xm-18 3.5”

while I personally would prefer a 3” XM-18 I won’t complain!

I hope there is a mix of blade styles. But if he only makes 1 style I’ll still be happy.

I don’t want to be too pushy like beggars can’t be choosers ya know? But we shall see!

Well, you left A LOT of meat on those bones!
Like what blade style?
Harpoon Tanto
Harpoon Spanto
Spanto
Skinny Skinner....etc.... :):cool::thumbsup:

DAMMIT!!!!
I was hoping to not spend anything on knives this year.
My preference would be a XM-18 Skinny 3" slicer grind with red scale.
But honestly, if Rick makes a lefty XM-anything I will be in.

lol I hear you loud and clear!

I am thinking I should change the title so it gets more exposure. If we have more people asking for it, he may make a batch sooner than later.

I wonder just how difficult it actually would be to produce lefty versions? CRK does it with all their folders and an XM isn’t that much more complicated than a Sebenza. Maybe they just don’t consider it cost effective?
Sebenza has twice less parts than Hinderer XM18..

I’ve taken both apart plenty of times so I’m aware of the total number of parts - I was thinking purely in terms of which ones would have to be lefty specific so really it would be about the same (blade & both handles).

Right on.

I’m sure it is a timely and pricey process to make a lefty. I asked Rick if I could collect him a list of names who would be interested in buying a lefty. I imagine a 1 time full batch of leftys would sell out easily. Hoping for a response.

Aw shucks, if he gives ya the green light on the list, just write down y'all would like Hell Fires
That would be sweet. Wow.....can yall imagine 50 Left Handed Hell Fires !!
Nah, hopefully he really can get yall some made up.
Although, have you considered which blade grind you would like?

I really haven’t personally.

honestly besides a skinner I am down for anything. Skinner is about the only model I am not super fond of. Anything else I am happy !

Not really sure why everybody keeps thinking it'd be hard or expensive to make LH something. Looks to me like most of what Hinderer does is CNC. I'm pretty sure that the drawing program has a "Mirror" function. So, a skilled operator of that software could reprogram the few needed LH parts in a short time. Some re-fixturing for the CNCs might be needed. After that, it'd just be setting aside the LH parts, and not mixing them up. The assemblers would likely just be able to put them together as usual. Maybe then some re-labeling of the boxes. If they made a run of 100 pieces, and charged an extra $20 per, I bet it would cover it.

If Rick responds in the positive there are quite a few guys that I can think of who will be quite interested in partaking. This has happened in the past with other makers.
Brian Nadeau, on his most recent release did a run of lefty Micro Evo Typhoons because one guy got a group of us together, and promised to purchase them.

It may not be necessary though. I got the vibe from Rick's IG posts that he was already planning to do a lefty batch.

yeah same here! Feeling optimistic that he will do a batch in the future.

Btw did you get a micro evo? Saw one on KnifeCenter last weeks. It looks like a awesome blade. I planned on possibly picking it up but it is already gone. Very cool that Brian Nadeau did that!

Yes. I was in the lefty group that got in on the preorder.
I got the Japanese tanto with micarta inlay. And yes. It is very awesome. If you can pick a lefty up for under $400 it's well worth it. One of the best production folders I've used.

I started asking about a left-hand model a couple years ago. I even contacted yesterday to ask status before seeing this thread.

The XM18 3in is the one I would really like to see but would buy a 3.5 or a couple other models if they were left-handed.
