It’s 2021 and Hinderer is still discriminating

I started asking about a left-hand model a couple years ago. I even contacted yesterday to ask status before seeing this thread.

The XM18 3in is the one I would really like to see but would buy a 3.5 or a couple other models if they were left-handed.

what did they say when you contacted?

He told me about the 4-way scales for the XM18 3.5 and how the 3in should be out later this year, but no update on an actual left-handed version.

I could live with a 3inch 4 way scale. Still hopefully one day A true lefty will come.

should protest. But seriously, I have no problem openning all my Hinderers with my left hand. And RHK does provide g10 scales with left front pocket carry position.

Agreed. I'm a righty but often actuate and unlock with my off hand with little problem. Seems like a non issue.

im a lefty, and i like folding knives just as they are, i don't feel inconvenienced or gangly uncoordinated when operating the many opening mechanisms, as a matter in fact the few lefty folders ive seen just seem so strange and foreign to me --- it doesn't help that i carry knives in my right pocket primarily

That's the thing. My carry position is in my left front pocket for a clipped knife. I just went to the RHK site and see no G10 scales for left front pocket carry position.

They made a batch of those scales 1 time. I don’t think they have done it again. Also they cost $100+.

Listen to yourselves! You have all been clearly brainwashed by the media!

I can easily use a Hinderer too. I have a Hoback that I use even though it’s right handed. The argument isn’t that it’s hard to use a right handed knife. I’m just like anyone else. Before I found out Chris Reeve made all their knives lefty, I only ever used knives made for righty’s. I even remember it taking quite a adjustment period to get used to using a true lefty.

Again, the argument isn’t the lock being hard to operate. It’s the principle for me. How much more work would it take for RHK to tap the other side?

clear discrimination against my indigenous left handed people. We need to band together and burn down a arbys or something right outside RHK!

Changing the CNC programming would be fairly easy. New fixuring would be needed to hold several of the now reversed parts on the machine as well as whatever jigs are used to bend the lockbar. Fixuring takes time so costs $$. But....once you have it, you have it for a long time making subsequent runs pretty simple.
Production would require either more machines or breaking down a current setup / machine and switching for a lefty run which then impacts other model production as well as a lost day or two setting up and proving out the setup and program.
I know in our shop a stopped machine for any reason meant money was not being made. Chips need to be flying or money is lost. (the differece between a $1.99 righty driver and a $3.99 lefty driver makes up for the down time :) )
One just needs to make a commitment that a particular need is important and go for it.

This argument is getting frustrating. I've said it in another recent thread, and I'll say it again here.
In most cases, left handed people are far more capable with our right hands than most rightys are with their left. That's because we've lived our lives having to use crap that was designed to be used with our non dominant hand. To the point where for some it feels off when they actually get something made for lefty use.
When people chime in with "What's the big deal? Look!! I can do it with MY left hand and I'm a righty. All you need to do is... blah blah.." You are being dismissive, insulting and prejudiced.
It may be a small prejudice, but it's still prejudice.

For all you rightys who say it's no big deal. Go spend $500 on a brand new LEFTY Sebenza.
You aren't going to do it. Why? Because you are right handed and that wasn't made for you.

If and when Hinderer makes a lefty, I'll buy it the day it's available. Otherwise, I'll just keep taking my money elsewhere.
C'mon Rick!! Even Strider made a run of leftys a few years back.

I believe to sell more of a product a company should make options to appeal to everyone. Many knife makers give you the choice of right or left carry and blade up or down. Although some think their brand is so strong you will accept what they choose to make.

Absolutely killed it with this post!
