It followed me home (Part 2)

JB that rafting pattern is a beauty. Not enough use to even cover up the 4 on the poll. I have been packing a shorter rafting pattern around as my truck axe for a while now. Handy axe.

Awesome! The handle is what caught my eye along with the head...I thought it looked short for the head size, so I am glad to see it can be reused. Is that one of those metal step wedges with the flat metal plate in there? If so bummer...that'll be harder to remove without haft damage. Good luck!

That handle is shorter than a boy's axe, but with the eye size that must have been what it was intended for. What a great, great haft.

Edit...wait, I see some runnout. Too bad...it's completely terrible and will fail on the first swing. You might as well send it to me for disposal.

;)

I finally got around to it...saved! The head is very nice, but that handle may be the best that I have ever found with regard to rarity, quality and condition. 24", slim and with proper grain orientation.

Picked up a nice True Temper 6# maul with an axe haft made in Japan I'm guessing they made them there for a cretin number of years but I have no clue.

Awesome! What a gorgeous haft. It's hard to tell, but it is lacquered or just an old, cured oiled finish?

Yesterday....

A 150lb Hay Budden for $325 and a 156lb beauty of an old English anvil for $250.

And today for $30.

Got one axe this weekend. Plumb Dreadnaught house axe. Pretty nice shape with labels and Permabond handle. Not a mark on the poll.

Nice find! Paper labels on handles (rather than stamped with gold coloured lettering), pre-dates Permabond (I have a National from the late 40s early 50s with a paper label) but I wonder when Plumb started clipping or rounding the feet of their handles.

Some rough stuff for me this weekend but there may be a gem in there somewhere. ..

That's how I prefer to find my heads! Half the fun is finding out what they are, and you get them for cheaper as the look like junk.

I agree, not sure what the story is with them as the "in laws" got them for me at an auction, but looks like maybe they were in a bucket of water.

First finds of the season! Pretty happy with them all but this is the jewel of the bunch, or more precisely Black Diamond

Paid 5 bucks for the Walters and 20 bucks each for the cant hook and two man log carrier.
