Is that a cruiser head on a hatchet length haft ?
It reminds me of the movie where the red fern grows.

I'd love to find a vintage db hatchet but since any axes are scarce in my area I have to settle for the marbles double bit hatchet that I have coming.
I'm sure I probably won't find as much use for it as a single bit, but db's are just cool and I've yet to experience one.

It's a saddle axe, it's got a lighter head than a cruiser.

That's even better , and a hekuva find.
I believe the marbles I have coming weighs in at just under 1lb total with a 14" handle, I've heard good things about them so I'm excited to finally try out a db.

This is probably not much but I like it. I especially like the handle.
Was Powr Kraft a Montgomery Wards brand?

It was a Montgomery Wards brand. True Temper made axes for them, maybe others that I am not aware of. The Hartwell handle is likely a replacement, it probably had a curved handle originally. Hartwell was associated with the Greygorge brand but sold replacement handles.

Finally found some stuff ! Now I need to find out if any of it is not junk.

I seem to spy a STANLEY marking and a model number on there. In the absence of 'warning wear safety googles' it might even be 40 years old. It's going to take a fair bit of work to reprofile the blade so you don't have to beat stuff to death before it splits.

The handle is a nice beefy one. It feels really solid and very well made. Also, I can see ridges in the eye. First one I've had with them.

Local antique shop is sadly closing, everything was half off. Walked out with these goodies for $10

I really like the handle with the red writing, it's going on a nice 5lb CT pattern.

That caught my eye, too. Great shape and looks to have excellent grain, too. I'd want a little longer haft on a 5 pounder but it all depends on your size and chopping style. Can't wait to see your Connie on that thing.

Factory handle was 26", but sadly it was cracked. This one's 28". All the handles have great grain.

Couldn't pass up a Mann for $22. Anyone familiar with these and the dates?
