It followed me home (Part 2)

Fayette R. Plumb II once gave a timeline of Plumb history, including
"1942 -- 'Victory' finish introduced & for duration of WWII"
Interesting..
Plomb tools used the phrase "War Finish" for their WWII era production.
Those tools were stamped with "WF" to indicate.

I got my marbles db hatchet the other day ( finally able to get outside and take a picture )
And so far I love it. Since my marbles machetes are orange I decided to accent this hatchet handle with a little bit of orange as well, and I think it's a nice touch .

. . .
I had never heard of "war finish" or Plomb Tool Co.

Apparently "war finish" was common on lots of stuff during WWII.

I've actually got a Wright field snap on midget breaker bar, and the drive size is just slightly bigger than 1/4 ( 9/32 I think ) .
Anyways, it's funny how people often mistake plomb for plumb. In the Early 1900's they had been told that they were allowed to keep their similar sounding name as long as they stayed out of plumbs market ( no hammers, axes ...ect ) which they didn't do and got sued by plumb and eventually just changed their name to proto.

http://imgur.com/a/0Ow5X this is everything from a few weeks before christmas till today, least remarkable first, harbor freight fire axe, Do you want a review? i wont get too in-depth, but its not ready to use out of the box (shocker), next craftsman, im gonna say, 10" plane. no markings but it's still good. next is a 3 1/2 kentucky. its weird, i didnt know they came in normal weights. next, the larger plane, made by sargent for craftsman, made around 1960, professional grade with a unique, 4 sided iron. it's strange. then, stanley sweetheart low angle plane. it's missing the foot-depth adjustment bit but everything else is intact. Flint edge jersey with a bingmaster semi-octagonal handle. from the broken ear thread. next is a sager chemical 1949 swamper 4 pound. i love the thing. nice leg vice. last but not least, fulton warranted superior crosscut with barely legible etch, also has some paint left over but it cuts really nice. whoo this took a while to type.

Nice stuff Phantom, them leg vices are just great. That one looks like it is in great condition.

spring's a little weak but otherwise if'd been painted, it could pass for new manufacture
I had one that was a coil spring. It worked better than the flat spring but I let it go to keep a bigger prettier one. Not sure I made the right decision though. Them flat springs just work far enough for gravity to take over. Lots of ways to add a little more tension to them though.

Two recent additions to my set.

Billn%C3%A4s%20%26%20Burgess%20Tool%20axes.jpg

The first is slip-fit-eye trade axe made for the Latin American market by Burgess Tools Limited of Ottawa. It was an extraordinarily generous gift from 300Six.

The second is a Billnäs (?) 12.2 that I was able to talk Agent H into selling me. I love how they contrast so strikingly yet perform essentially the same task.

Thank you both for the excellent additions to my set.

Picked up this Witte Hardware Co hatchet with Verde, Rolfe & Co handle. Yes it has been braised, but for what I have in it <$10 bucks I think it's a deal.

im sure there's a guy on the forums that could find you one for cheap and send it to you, but you couldnt organize it on this forum unless you buy a membership.

My first purchase of any kind of axe or hatchet came in today. I picked up a True Temper Tommy Axe and a Hults Bruk 2.25 lb Hatchet.

The Tommy Axe is 17.5" OAL, and as you can see, the head has slipped about 3/16".

The Hults seems to be mounted quite securly and measures 18.5" OAL.

My ideas when purchasing were to rehang the Tommy Axe on an 18-20" House Hatchet handle and rehang the Hults on a 24-28" Boys Axe Handle. The Plan stays the same with the Tommy Axe, but I'm hesitant to take the Hults off the current handle. Seems like a "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of a situation. If I do rehang it, any thoughts or suggestion on 24" vs 28" handle? I'm 6'4" and average build, if that makes a difference.

I apologize for the poor cell phone pictures. I was taking them/editing them during breaks while cooking dinner. I couldn't get a clear shot of the HB logo, unfortunately.

Thanks for entertaining a newcomer's post! Cheers!

alright i need a response ASAP, i have a choice between puget sounds, both are same price, flint edge or sager?

Condition is everything. Probably the the Sager but with out pictures hard to say. If the said Sager is a Chemical Axe that really tilts the table in its favor.
