It followed me home (Part 2)

I hope I don't get banned for posting pictures with out any cool axes or cleavers. It's winter here, things are going to slow down. Slim pickens.

This was a good collection, not only for the variety, but also the condition. All have good solid handles, most are original. Nothing but some light surface rust, no pitting at all. Several, such as the Craftsman 4th down on the left are in superlative condition with a tight flush wood in the eye and original paint. I really enjoy the act of finding as much as the axes themselves. A good day.

From top left heading down- A really nice fire axe with some markings, not original but a nice quality handle. A probable Plum based on the color of the handle and the head, great condition, handle just needs light sanding. A very nice True Temper, later model but still older and in rock solid shape. An absolutely beautiful Craftsman Michigan pattern, just awesome. A Plumb All American, fantastic shape. A True Temper Flint Edge Connecticut, just great and only needs a light sanding on the handle. A beautiful Michigan pattern, marked Made In USA, original paint on rock solid handle.

Next row- A very nice unmarked house axe. A like new quality Stanley hatchet. A hatchet marked Made In W Germany. A standard roofers hatchet marked GTW. A Plumb barrel hatchet so nice that the red Permabond is still glossy. An unmarked but very nice green hatchet, I've seen this before but don't know who makes it. A 3lb Plumb Connecticut. An axe marked DY and 2 1/2, like new condition. A True Temper Flint Edge Kelly Works Michigan.

I am really happy with this stash. I went into a non-fancy antique store and asked. They had this stuff in the back shed, wasn't even for sale in the showroom.

JB, were you right in front of me today?

Nice haul! I like the TT Flint Edge Connectecut the best.

I'm with you. It's a tie in this case with the Craftsman simply for it's amazing condition, but I have a huge soft spot for Connecticut and Jersey axes with slender handles. The Plumb Connecticut is a close second.

Do you know the maker of those crosscut handles?

I'm with garry3 - I like the Flint Edge Connie best. But all nice finds. Rare to find so many great hafts. You really hit a honey hole.

JB,
I think that would look fine hanging with my other Connies ;)

All I got today was a box of small turned handles to use on files :(

Today was just as good as yesterday, I'll post later. Standouts include an old stamped BSA hatchet, a Norland hatchet, and...a True Temper Kelly Perfect beveled Jersey boys Axe on a solid original handle.

I picked up maybe 25 or so items this weekend. If people are interested I'll bite the bullet and pay the fee to sell. EBay is good, but I'd like the guys here that love what I do to get first crack.

This is today, on top of yesterday's finds. It was a good weekend. Scattered in there are a couple of hammers and clamps that I liked the look of. There is a lovely Collins Homestead Board axe, must be collectable. :D Some standard but nice big camp axes, a Norlund hatchet, a Dunlap hatchet, a stamped Plumb BSA hatchet, a beautiful Plumb Connecticut. There is one head that has a distinct mark that I don't recognize, I am curious about that one. It's a slightly different shape, maybe European, will find out. My favorite is bottom right, the True Temper Kelly Perfect Jersey.

I see your message to me. Not sure why you can't see my message to you. Message me again with an email address and I'll contact you.

One so far, and it's a good one, Union Tool Co Charleston WV

I tried to find out more information about the Union Tool Company of Charleston WV, but all I'm finding is that it was one of the brands used by Kelly:

A.%20F.%20%26%20H.%20Brands%209.jpg

"List of many of the company brands used by the American Fork & Hoe Co. on Kelly Ave & Tool Works and/or True Temper axes and hatchets."
quoted from YesteryearsTools

References to "Union Fork & Hoe Company" didn't lead anywhere, because that company was located only in Columbus OH and Frankfort NY.
