So this followed me home from the mail box today.
The stamp has been lost and it has been painted blue at some stage of its life its still in great condition.$82 including postage and handling.
Total weight is just over 6lb.
Now judging from the size, pattern, pinned head on both sides and the fact that the seller was also selling a hytest black racer im gonna' go out on a limb here and say i just scored a restored hytest forester which usually go unrestored for 100 to 130.

Edit: forgot to mention the slight bevel/scallop on the top and bottom of the cheeks right before the eye.
:D

I believe it to be a Hytest craftsman just like mine.

Nice finds. The challenger i picked up the other day has slight eye deformation a factory off center eye and mushrooming on the thicker side but the price was right. I think i can file it out and get snug fitment if i wedge it so it mushrooms out the top a little. like how they wedge newer gransfors bruks. This is my first project, I picked a doozy.

Cleaned up alright after some vinegar and a wire cup.

Yea that challenger looks so nice. It'll look so good once you finish it.[emoji106][emoji106][emoji106][emoji106]

I thought the craftsman had less of an upswept toe and heel the angle seems too steep. I could just be looking at well worn examples though.

Here's a Hytest forged tools axe with a swept toe and heel.

Sorry for the bad photo I'll get better ones tomorrow.

This first head looks like a Mann made Collins to me.

The next one has an awesome shape. I don't know the logo.

Can't make out this Mark

The double has some eye abuse but it's old and mostly good. Another maker I don't know.

Germantown tool works i think. Closest i can find but yours is a little shorter on the keystone. Hmm ill keep looking

No luck this is all i can find with a keystone like that. ( Edit: I think the A is the lettering on the stamp after looking at your closeup on photobucket, Not the high spot in between like i previously said)
There is a company called keystone. mfg co. inc but i cant find anything with that stamp only a hewing hatchet that seems fairly new and has a completely different stamp, And a bunch of old shifters ( Adjustable wrenches).

Even if it is a craftsman im very happy with it, They're listed on ebay for $120 (AUD add around 27% for USD) newly hungy on spotted gum with rusty slightly mushroomd heads, almost gone stamps and usually worn heels plus the $20 postage. I was the only bidder because the stamp is gone and there was baby blue paint in the slight pitting (One of the problems of Australia being a mostly coastal living population) so the seller listed it as ** HYTEST ** BLUE and no one saw it for what it was. got it for 82 fully restored and its now my main user. Split some 4 year old willow slices about 3 ft wide 1 ft thick like hot butter, im impressed.

That one is in much better condition and clearer as just an A and not what i posted so back to the drawing board i guess. That hewing hatchet is the same one i found not the correct company we're looking for i suspect but a new one to me none the less. Good detective work bob. Hard to see on the old ad if it has the same mark but there is definitely something there.
Im only at page 112 so sorry if im posting old news i haven't seen it yet.
Ive seen other posts trying to id the same stamp they just came to the conclusion of council tools and left it there.
Thought i might have something to add.

Sorry that ad isn't in better focous, but that is what I have. It looks to me that there is a "K" in the keystone, but I am not going to state that it is.

That "A" in the keystone is a mystery that comes along once in awhile that I have never seen an answer to.

IMO you are adding by trying. Thanks for contributing.

In the old ad if you look above the mark with the k on the side of the poll zoomed in there is what looks to be a keystone but is blurred and i can't be sure.
Thanks for the support im a newbie to these axes especially foreign axes but im starting to get back into the things i used to get up to with my father when i was a younger lad ( im only 22 by btw ) left school and been working since 15. My dad is pretty oldschool in a sense and i geuss i take after him i relate to him more than most my age and hes 66. Hes just like his old man, My grandpa is 93 years old Swedish born, still fit as a fiddle and built lile an ox he gets out 7 days a week in a 50's dodge tow truck and collects scrap metal. Toughest man i know without a boubt. Anyway thats me im james same as my father and his father before him i also hold the middle name warrick a family tradition. dating back a few hundred years. Just thought id introduce myself since alot of you know eachother quite well it seems.

Way to go James. I know your Father is proud of you! I have 3 sons myself and although they don't share my interest in axes they appreciate them and the stories for the history they represent! Welcome to the Axe Junkie Addiction!!!!!

I do not think I have posted this here. I picked this one up simply because it was a good deal. I just have not gotten around to hanging it. It is just kind of just sitting around. The poll has been hit, but it isn't that bad.

This ol' girl is on the way to my door, I'm pretty excited. I haven't been able to get any of the current Wetterling models I want, but a piece of history does my heart well.
