Photobucket has stabbed us in the back. $400 to host images on websites etc.

I have been able to post some pictures directly from PB (see above posts). By coincidence I was experimenting with one of yours. I have a feeling the ones I put up may not last.:( May not show up for everybody either. If this shows up for you, let me know:

Nope, doesn't work. :(

I had to transfer nearly 1000 images from PB to another site. Quite the pita.
 
Seems like the PB rant has died down, it does suck but back to the goods. Got this old link in the mail today. Nice and straight with proper grain orientation.

No, that is improper grain orientation for many reasons. The way run out happens and it's orientation to the handle an how it will flex and be stressed is one reason. Being ring porous and all.
Or in other words, because the grain orientation is the way that it is on that handle you have run out that will be flexed and stressed on every swing. Look at the top picture between your thumb and first finger.
You have run out down the belly!
