It followed me home (Part 2)

Weird, I recently have photobucket for a couple of days and no problem whatsoever. As far as I can see the problem is app related or hosting related: If you upload directly to photobucket it should work....

Everything that I have on there, 900-1000 picture was uploaded directly. It has always worked until just this week, now they say they don't allow IMG linking without a $399 upgraded account.

My issue isn't with finding another service, that's no problem. I even have most of my pictures and could download all of them from Photobucket. My issue is that I relied on them based on what they said they did. Now, all the pics that I have ever posted here are gone forever along with their usefulness. Not because the pics are gone, but because there is no way for me to go back to every thread that I have ever posted in and manually relink the pictures on a new service. Insane amount of work. How would I even figure out what pictures were in what posts if I can't see them now? I'm resigned, they are gone, and 3-4 years of posts have just been tremendously degraded.

I know that they are a business, and they need to pay the bills. If they find that they need to adjust things to continue to make the business work, fine. But don't pull the rug out from everyone, and don't make the fee so onerous. Would they generate more revenue by asking for $25-50/year and getting it from a good percentage of people, or asking for $400 and losing almost everyone. Ultra lame.

Right click mouse and follow the link. With that link you could follow it to the picture you uploaded. But then again, I link the same images, but not with the code inclusions. I just use the picture, right click, cope adress an past it here. Thats the only explanation I can think of why mine work and yours don't? Because I don't pay fee at all. I do had the same issues with the code when in signed up though, so that could be it, but I don't really know for sure?

I don't know, I've always done it the same way but I'll look at it.

Kinda looks like phtobucket itself got hacked or your computer did, because i cant acces you photobucket in the normal sence. But, that being said, I can see a couple of photo's. I'll pick one and upload it below. That way, you'll know it's a problem with certain accounts:

Link works, so, you should probably contact photobucket? I'm betting they have an issue? Could be "Petya" or "NotPetya"? Or didn't you guys get the news of the latest ransomware hack in Europe?

If so: update your Windows XP machines now, or you could be in for a world of trouble. Especially If you run a business on the same computer. One of my customers got hit, and most of the files on his computer are gone. Just saying....

No, still can't see it. And no we all didn't get hacked. Do a Google search, I just did and the outrage is Internet wide. This is real.

Anyway, while this is a very worthwhile topic, I think that a new thread should be started for this issue instead of continuing in this one.

This is a bummer. What company does that, without giving some advance notice anyway?

RIP Photobucket, it'll be well deserved...after a plethora of other recent fiascos...

Pictures I've posted here from PB are still here. For example:
Hand planes and chisels. Here is a Union #5 with a BUHL heavy tapered iron (blade).

Right, those terms of use are a brand new change that took effect without warning or notice.

I'm fortunate to have my own domain name and some server space so I can host all my own images. But that has drawbacks. Yesterday while using some new FTP software I accidently deleted my folder of axe photos. Thankfully it had been automatically backed up the night before. A buddy helped me replace the missing folder. But at least I got it all working again.

Double Bit Day! Found an old Hults Bruk DB in a small town south of here. For some reason, the owner varnished the handle AND the head. Maybe it was a wall hanger. My son found the Marshall Wells Zenith in the garage of his new place.

I feel you man. Really. What it is is a blackmail situation. No less. You are either out what you what you contributed to a place you liked, or you are out cash. Or, the third, you are about to spend some serious time re doing things.
I would just move forward. I would not allow myself to pay what I feel is ransom. Nor would I be willing to spend weeks of my time re doing "conversations".
I have been trying more and more to just upload directly to the site I am on.

Right, I would never pay them $1 after this, and I'm not spending the next year rebuilding my past posts. They really did a ton of damage all over the web, and my only solace is knowing that they just killed themselves.

They may rethink this, in face of the backlash. Or they may be "oh so good" in the end and lower the price to something much more affordable. This may have been nothing but a strategy to begin with, and it may very well work.

It looks to me like there would be legal complications to what PB did. I've been with them for 10 years and can't even access my photos other than in thumbnail form.

Perhaps. To the younger generation video and pictures are everything. They NEED photos and videos to justify there very existence. Lol.

Ah. Remind me what is the difference between WannaCry and Photobucket again please?
