I found it at a junk shop on lake Michigan near Saugatuck. The head and broomstick weigh 6 ounces, according to my bread scale. I'll have to weigh 10" of broomstick and subtract.Interesting, where'd you find the little guy and how much does the head weigh ?
Nice finds....would you call those Jewelers anvils?
Well that's definitely small, the Vaughan sub zero hatchet which is known to be pretty small weighs 8oz.I found it at a junk shop on lake Michigan near Saugatuck. The head and broomstick weigh 6 ounces, according to my bread scale. I'll have to weigh 10" of broomstick and subtract.
The wedgeless handle wiggled out pretty easily. The head is five ounces.
I'm going to whittle it a longer handle: wth so little mass it may need a lot of velocity. Very thin bit, though.Well that's definitely small, the Vaughan sub zero hatchet which is known to be pretty small weighs 8oz.
Mine is 2&1/8 also.A few years ago, I 'won' an auction for a similar-looking mini hatchet, but didn't find a good use for one so lightweight.
Shown in the photo below, the edge is only 2-1/8".

My Vaughan does pretty well on the 12" handle I did for it, and I'd say 12" would make this one into a nice little utility tool.I'm going to whittle it a longer handle: wth so little mass it may need a lot of velocity. Very thin bit, though.
I bought the Vaughan in a fit of Horace Kephartism, and I have a similar Tru-Test from the early 70s. I'll dig them out and see how they compare.

Machinist hammer handle on yours?

These are a standard half hatchet pattern, but they're similar in general.Reminds me of Vaughan's oyster hatchet.
What's that little pistol grip handle, a keyhole saw ?A slightly different haul, but good stuff all the same.

Can't remember which, but that's either a fence tool or a crate tool.hatchet pliers?
