It followed me home (Part 2)

That's a really nice Craftsman axe, Miller!

I know, what a lucky guy he is.

Thank you Quinton.
Thank you Hn'S.
The gentleman has this fantastic 6'-8' two man perforated Lance tooth saw hanging with other treasures on his back garage wall. That hanger sparked our conversation and my inquiring if he had any axes and pipe wrenches, hammers and saws.

He called me back today to look at one saw from his basement, I ended up looking at two and came home with one saw and the Craftsman...he told me he didn't have any axes or hatchets and then he came up with this in his hand :)
When I saw that Craftsman I instantly thought of you Hickory N' Steel.

I will be calling him to grab the saw I passed on today. He offered to hold it for me, maybe Wednesday if all goes well I may have more to post a picture or two of :)
As soon as we talked more about my desire to use and learn about using and maintaining, that's when the 4' plain tooth and Craftsman came out.

Never hurts to ask, you don't always end up staring down the barrel of a 12Ga :D

i should probably get a craftsman, i pass them up because i dont like craftsman. i'v never used a craftsman anything so i shouldnt be so quick to judge

I have always used Craftsman for work except for specific, specialized tools.
I will admit, Craftsman older is better quality than newer, especially their ratchets coincidentally, and now that there are only a handful of brick and mortar Sears left...the guaranteed warranty exchange makes their tools that much less desirable.
I last purchased a new Craftsman tool back in 2001.

I used a Craftsman ratchet for about 2 hours once
Was that how long the internal mechanism lasted? 40 years ago I convinced the manager at the only Simpsons-Sears store in Ottawa to issue me extra ratchet rebuild kits (for 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2) in advance because the darn things inevitably stripped during an evening or on a Sunday when the store was closed. When Sears was forced to discontinue the push button socket release feature in the 1980s I was ticked off enough to switch brands over to Canadian Tire. I can't say they're much better but they have many stores throughout the entire Country.

The quick release ratchet wasn't discontinued here in the US, it stayed in production until they eventually started making the QR button out of plastic and it is now made in China like 99% of all Craftsman tools. ( Stanley recently bought the name from Sears, so hopefully they bring some production back here )

Lots of goodies there, JB. The pulley looks like it might have been part of a hay trolley for a barn loft.

What's the weight and jaw size of the vice? It might be worth your $100 investment by itself.

I need to weigh it but I'm guessing 60 pounds. It is beefier than many that I see (slim 4-inchers that you can easily move around one handed), and in excellent condition with clean jaws. I'm thinking that the vise is $200 minimum.

It's 5" and 67.5 pounds. And the Connie is a Warren Old Faithful!
