Looks like Underhill made pickless ice axes, too. I'm betting that's what it is.

Gifford's square-edge ice axe sure looks a lot like a mortising bit. Similar handle, too. Imagine it without the pick.

JB the Legitimus cleaned up superb. It looks near pristine.
The sharp clean pole and the bow in the handle only makes me want it more

to me it looks like the kind of turpentine axe used to make the "box" in the base of the tree to collect the sap.

So I Google Turpentine axe, and 3 clicks later I'm watching some video about a guy tripping from taking turpentine. Thanks Youtube.

Today's finds.

A ton of great stuff there, JB. I want one of those railcar movers but I have no idea why. Can we get a closer look at the draw plane on the right. That's what it is, right? Looks a little different than mine.

The big pulley/sheave might be from an old hay trolley. We still have a fair number of old barns around that still have their intact hay trolleys.
