It followed me home (Part 2)

So this week I kept it in the forum! The Flint Edge boys axe is one of JB’s Offerings and he surprised me with a very nice small Arkansas stone! JB I love these size Arkansas stones. I really appreciate the gesture!!! I hope you get more of these because I would like to purchase some from you!! Again thank you.

This little hand ax hand came from Phantomknives. He carved it himself and asked if I had a use for it. I happily said yes. I am excited to put a nice vintage head on this handle! I am also excited to send you a gift as well!

This forum brings people together and these gestures of kindness are very well received! I hope I can match them for both of you! There are so many forums out there where people just act like they are all experts and argue the whole time. Not to say there hasn’t been a scuffle or two on here but I feel like this is the best forum out there! Thanks to everyone for making it a good place to learn and show off all our cool shit haha.

This lot of tools came with the blue grass and Collins fire axe. That is a Stanley no 4 1/2 smoothing plane that is in need of a new iron. If anyone has one or comes across one I would rather purchase it from someone on here! Thanks! A Stanley iron for a 6 or 7 would also fit it. It’s 2 3/8 wide. Thanks guys!!

I still have some fitting to do to complete it. But this TT Woodslasher head fits it very nicely I think. Maybe not a “true” pocket ax, but it is less than one pound and it fits nice. I will set it down about half an inch and slap a walnut wedge in it! And I think I am going to attempt a knob end on the swell! Does the head look proportional?? Thanks again man it is a very nice shape. Feels great in the hand. Keep an eye out at the mail box!

Awesome, and it'll look great once you've finished hanging it and properly clipped the fawns foot.

Phantomknives really did a great job carving it.

Nothing axe related followed me home as sadly it rarely does, but I did get a pair of Solingen made steak knives at Goodwill.
I expected $1 a piece as they weren't priced, but since they judiciously tape knife blades up they had stuck themselves together and the pair only costed 50¢.
Pretty good I feel, and it didn't take too long to bring them from completely blunt to on the cusp of popping arm hair. I could go further but I'd say they're sharp enough for my needs.

that'll be real nice once you get it on there, I hope all goes well for you

HnS...

My bride brought home a complete set of Henckel's (1 dancing man) from GW for $6.00.
They sharpened nicely (Kramer 400, 1000, 5000). One of her best finds ever.... they now
reside in the RV. These are not their top of the line (2 dancing men...Professional S) but good
Solingen steel.

Nice find... I'm always looking.

Is that a Kennedy top box?? I have the bottom and need a top!

You should acquire that Coburn Rocket and bring her home :D

That Kennedy looks to be in excellent shape.
You made a sick score today...$20!;):thumbsup:

That Rocket is wicked sweet JB! I am Coburn green with envy ;)

I can't believe i was outdone! Jblyttle got me with his grinding wheel. I was so pumped to have found one. It's a 10" wet grinder and I have a motor for it so i just need the belt and time to set it up. Also a "superior" Connecticut pattern. I believe i know the maker but I'll wait and see of any of you have a suggestion? Also a nice Gifford wood co. pick pole head, a scythe and a 36" straight axe eye maul handle too.

That's a killer haul regardless of whatever JB brought home. I'd be thrilled to make that haul.

I like the pike pole. Probably for the ice harvesting business. That was their market.

Thank you! I was pretty happy and I only went to three yard sales. Everything "Gifford" that one ever seen has been ice related as well. I was surprised to see the "wood co." added on the end. I'm debating whether or not to make an ash handle for it. I doubt I'll ever have a use for it but that's not stopped me yet!
