It followed me home (Part 2)

Kelly worlds finest dandenong 2kg (4 1/2 lb)
Im 90% possitive its never been sharpened in its life. Not a single file mark on the bit and the edge is still 1mm thick like a new unsharpened axe and the transition from cheeks to the edge of the bit is completely smooth as in the angle never changes or steepens like its never had a grind on it . Zero heel or toe wear/chips either and not a single mark on the poll .
Not bad for 30 bucks.

Kinda feel dumb for not noticing this immediately but the eye was drifted a bit off center.... well very off center. I've delt with this before with my first hang ever having the same issue and a twisted bit from someone using it as a pry bar. It took me a while but i managed to get the bit on that one center so shouldn't be an issue here. This wont be a user anyway.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Kinda bummed as its perfect in every other regard but it is what it is. Looking back at the listing pictures the 2 eye shots were taken from deceiving angles to make it look like a top and bottom shot when in reality it was 2 pics of the bottom of the eye.

It's a great axe. Just take the eye into account when you hang it. The bit certainly looks fresh but the poll has been worn and filed. There's a bit of a sway-back visible above the word 'AUSTRALIA' and they almost filed the top off the letter 'T'.

Ill never understand what drives people to use their axe to hammer on steel, i wouldnt dream of it. There is a slight dip but not as much as it looks like. The poll is actually pretty flat the picture is a little deceiving as the edges arent square but have a 45 degree angle on them and the angle changes a little with the bottom line dipping a bit over the australia, its the 45 thats reflecting the light. On the other side it looks flat. I id say it has been flatened but only very slightly as the only small indent on the poll still has paint in it. Anyway im sure i can get the bit in line when i hang it. Should be a piece of cake compared to the other one i mentioned. The eye wall thickness will bug me for a bit but ill get over it. I dont even notice it on my other any more. No point dwelling on it. Its only an axe after all. Ive got 13 more heads including 4 double bits one an almost new red warrior on the way here that i got for $79 so it'll probably be out of mind soon anyway. Some nice patterns in there to.

Plumb Connecticut 3.5 lbs. minimal pole damage. It has a bit of toe ware but I think I can clean it up a bit. My first Connecticut pattern. It came loosely fit on a 32 inch NOS octagon handle. It has a slight bow but I should be able to save it.

Any idea on the age?

i can say the round lettering puts it after the 20's, i think. was the handle original?

Not original, the head has seen some use, and the handle has never been wedged. The head was just slipped on. It fits perfect though. If I can straighten the bow it will be a easy hang.

That is a nice looking Connecticut Plumb:thumbsup: Great score. I would love to see pics of the handle and how much bow is in it.

My Flint Edge original handle has a slight bow, but I like the look and its only a slight bow.

That's a sweet plumb:thumbsup:

Just unclamped it from the bench and it looks a lot better. Actually it’s hard to see the bow in pictures. I’m thinking I may end up selling the combo so I’d like to get it as straight as I can.

Looks like it sat in a barn or basement for years, just gonna give it a lite sand and or scrape then oil it.

Your right, I may have or have not noticed a bow much at all. Less than the one I mentioned I have for sure.
If the wood is good, I would make it handsome again with BLO too.
Looks great! Love a sharp pole & bit connie

Maine2o,
My vote... tighten up if needed , address the bit, and , use as is. I like the look of your ax.

While still technically a tasmanian pattern i wouldn't consider the dandenong to be a "true" tassie. A "True" tassie has a rediculously upswept toe, enough to make you question whether or not you've hung it upside down lol. The dandenong also doesn't have a high centerline its more or less flat. A true tassie has a stupidly high centerline.
The 3 variations of the tassie.

The top is closer to a connie and the bottom id consider a "true" tassie.

This is a wax 001. They were also made in the dandenong factory. There are 3 types. The 001, 002 and 003.

the wax 003. Is a sledge back block splitter.
The 001 above is the exact same as the dandenong but with 4 eye ridges. Ive never seen a 002, Can't even find images of it they're that rare.

Thanks. The master googler strikes again. I've tried but failed. Looks like it has more of a flat top with no swept toe. Will have to keep an eye out for it to complete the trio.
