And the FWW magazine has a section on making axe handles.
I'd like to see that. Year, month?

What's with the cracked head? If you don't want it, I might be interested.
He tossed it in the package and I thought I might save the handle. Send me your address and I’ll ship you the head. It’s a shame it’s cracked. I’m not sure if you can tell from the picture but it’s a Flint Edge. What's with the cracked head? If you don't want it, I might be interested.
Mono steel with ridges? It is very easy to no even notice the hairline cracks along the eye in True Temper axes from that period. He tossed it in the package and I thought I might save the handle. I do wonder how well that would work with square nuts? I also suspect the staple puller would be better than the ones on fencing pliers.
i got a set of those too, not as nice and chinese but not chinesium, good to know the name, hope they serve you well. These followed me home as a Solstice present to myself, a set of Robert Larson gimlets. They are 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, & 6mm (~1/4"). I got them to add to my bushcrafting kit. I think I'll make a little leather pouch for them. They will be nice for making lashing/lanyard holes and holes for small 1/4" pegs.
With the 6mm it took me 70 seconds to drill through a 2x4. With the 3mm it took me 20 seconds to drill through a piece of 1/2" cherry. With the 4mm I drilled through the cherry in 17 seconds.
No surprise you end up with that axe ..... Maybe some day it is going to be part of tricentennial exhibitionChristmas Eve I went out and couldn't not pass the hardware store without checking on their holiday stock of Link...
...the day before I found myself drinking Stella and ordering a huge puck and pickaroon to come in the mail.
This weekend I was smitten and I also could not help myself. I feel most fortunate to have receieved these via the mail today as well.

Thank you JB, as always super quality and more than fair!
Beauty.
JB thanks
I am probably wrong, but it looks like it was modified to resemble racing axeI don't think I've been around long enough for JB to sell directly to me, hopefully someday. Did buy a piece off of him from the auction site.
Speaking of the auction site, here is what was waiting for me yesterday when I got home. I don't know anything about it, I bought it as a curio along with another item that hasn't arrived yet. The fellow I bought it from purports to have over 300 axes and hatchets, and competed in timbersports in his college days. I'm sure some of you saw this.

Anybody have any ideas as to what this is? The steel is as hard as anything I've taken a file to. The guy didn't remember anything about it. Obviously it's pinned, but I don't know if it was like that originally or if that might have been an addition.
I just noticed that the stamp under the poll looks like the 8 in 1/8 was added by hand after it was finished.

Very cool piece, if I knew something about it it would be even cooler!
