It followed me home (Part 2)

Good score! Two very nice anvils and is that cruiser a Main also?

Yep. Of the 10 axes/hatchets 6 are Maine made. Several S&N's including a super clean boy's axe head and that double bit is also wedge patterned. The coolest IMO is the Spiller Maine wedge hatchet head, second one in bottom right.

That is an impressive thing. I'd say that axe deserves the home it's found.

I thought about it- it may be the coolest hatchet that I have ever found, but I just have no use for a traditional hatchet sized axe. I love a 1.75lb head on a 18-19" handle but personally have no use for anything between that and a bushcraft knife. As nice as this is, it will go to a true collector and in return give me more value to go after other things.

I think she's got very sexy curves. The bits have been thinned - a full banana of sorts. Will only need a minor touch up.

JB - nice hatchet but I was eyeing Square_peg's Puget Sound. What is the divot? I have a recent find with one as well.

Thanks, H.

You can never be certain how a divot was used by a previous owner. I would guess that this was a pivot point for aligning some sharpening device - possibly a draw filing jig. I don't know why there are no corresponding divots on the opposite side or flip side. Perhaps they used it for one bevel and then eyeballed the others to match. The bevels are nearly perfectly flat and appear to have been filed. The bevels don't look to be the work of a hobbyist. That's one of the things that drew me to this axe.

Every time a pudget sound pattern get's posted I always think to myself "I really need one of those!"

. . . A kindling chopper and a beetroot knife! . . .

I am not familiar with these. Being curious, I tried to find about them on the web. Didn't find a lot - pictures of similar but nothing on their use or origin. It seems these may be more common in U. K.?

A workbench . . .

That's an efficient looking bench. Love the wooden screws. Are the female threads cut or metal inserts? Looks like the chop on the tail vise is dovetailed. Do you know what kind of wood it's made of? What are your plans for it? Thanks

Oh yes, but initially it looked a little too small, so the 2x4s are my cheap try to extend the benchtop to add a little more stability to it. Also, the bench had no legs so I will build a stable base for it.

All threads are wood, don't know what kind of wood tho.

I don't know what my plans are for it, all I know is that I've always wanted a real woodworking bench! Perhaps my creativity will go up a notch now! Thank you :)

I got these at a large primitive archery gathering last week. I traded for some and some were gifts. Only found one mark on one of the hatchets. All of them are in decent shape. The one hatchet has been modified some.

Yeah they are. The chopper is for small sticks, like a froe, and the beetroot knife is for cutting the tops off of root veg'. I find lots for sale and always English made. Samw with billhooks,

The stamped hatchet you posted is a plumb Boyscouts axe, great find. The Double Bit looks a lot like a few TT Kelly Works I've seen, does it have ridges in the eye?

What a great score. Looks like she is a Kelly Perfect Jersey. A good clean up with a course wire cup on an angle grinder and she'll turn really nice.
