It followed me home (Part 2)

I know that Craftsman is kind of on the "B" team as far as being desirable/collectable goes, but this is one nice axe. $5 at a thrift store.

I don't think the Craftsman axes are "B" grade, but they don't get the interest of the "Name" brands. The couple I've rehung seemed to have good steel. A friend of mine spends a lot of time in the woods, his favorite hatchet is the 1 1/4 lb Craftsman. He says you cant beat them for the money. The handle on your axe is worth more than $5, good score!

Good looking Craftsman. The bit looks solid and that handle as well. $5? I would purchase that and another for that. Nice axe JB.

I absolutely love the handle on this axe!! I do believe it's coated with some varnish, but the ergos are amazing!

Great looking axe and I LOVE the historic buildings. Those hewn logs are really cool.

Just never know what you are going to find. This was a yard sale find today. It needs cleaned up but seems to be in very good condition. Its on an original 30" haft, stamped Plumb on both sides. Anyone know what Plumb called this pattern? I think this is an Australian pattern(Tasmanian?). It feels like about 4lbs.

My Mother in law scores! I was at work today and got a text from her with a pic of this with a $7.50 tag. The side she sent was the unmarked side but I knew by the phantom bevels it was a good one. Got home and was happy to see the TT Kelly Perfect. 7" × 4.5" with ridges in the eye and what's left of the original handle. The bit is actually sharp enough to use. I'm going to give it a vinegar bath and see the temper lines and take a little rust off. Some mushrooming on the poll but not too bad. This one made my day!

Looks like it was never used. Nice to come across some thing like that when most axes have been abused to death.

Nice to know that there's still some out there.

Good strong heel & toe on that one.

Thanks! It turned out OK, wish I could remove the paint without scratching the head.. You can see pictures in "rehang thread"

Use some paint stripper, then a belt sander, then a buffing wheel that is 2000grit automotive wet/dry. It will have a satin finish.

Today was a good day. Everything is in there. Rafting axe, Flint edges, Legitimus heads, hatchets, adze heads, carving stuff, several very nice hand made axe heads, a Maine wedge and on and on.

This first pic is stuff that I got a a local flea market today. Total cost was $88 and $45 of that was the vise. But...

After the flea I went to a guy's house an hour away who wanted to clean out his granddad's stuff from the garage/workshop. The second two pics are what I pulled out of there for $220. I am psyched, this may be my best single day ever (yet) and I've had some good ones.

I almost forgot the best piece! I got this from the guy too for an extra $50. I am so happy to have it. There is a buffer half in the pic too that I got for $10.

Holy crap. After what I've seen you post I was afraid to even look at what you had scored. It ain't right, you having that stuff around you like that. But hey, at least somebody's finding it who isn't shipping it off to China to get melted down for car fenders. More power to ya!

Jealous as hell.........

WOW! Man you scored massively!

JBLyttle: Another home run. Your wife must be getting 'fit to be tied' with all the (what most people would call) 'junk' you haul home and spread out over the dining room table on a weekly basis. As SquarePeg says, and I agree, it's nice that you are wholescale sparing old tools from export to Asia in order to become car fenders and soup cans.
You already know I'm more than a little bit interested in getting my hands on a clean rafting pattern axe. PM me with some details and pictures if this is something you don't intend to keep for yourself.
